Cannot Set Default Printer

Sorry for the long description ,any help would be appreciated, I contacted Microsoft because I could not uninstall a couple of programs, it would tell me "the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation," Then it would say" you do not have sufficient access to uninstall Please contact your system administrator". A support tech contacted me and told me to do the following: type in regedit and locate the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft
highlight Microsoft and delete
delete following keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Group Policy Objects
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

after doing a couple of these steps, I now cannot set my printer as default, I have no use of my printer, I had to reinstall a couple of my programs and it has been a nightmare. I did try to do the regbackup, it said it was restored but there is no difference, I also restored my whole computer before this mess and it is still the same, In a panic I emailed Microsoft 2 times and they told me my tech is working on it, it has been several days and still have not heard back. All I want now is to have use of my printer
