Post sleep/hibernation status is not normal

When I wake up Laptop from hibernation or sleep or screen saver, IE and START button are non-responsive. I have to activate task manager and click "look for solution" which re-activates IE but makes me lose everything I was working on prior to sleep/hibernation or screensaver. Or I shut down manually using power button, then re-start/reboot.

Have I programmed my PC incorrectly to sleep/hibernate or is it intrinsic VISTA prob? I never had this prob with XP or W98.

Re: Post sleep/hibernation status is not normal

This is very much like my thread from a few days ago, except that the laptop was defaulting to sleep mode, and never rebooting/shutting down, but the problem remains in sleep mode.

I didn't notice a Start menu problem though, and didn't trying clicking the 'look for solution', so can't report if this would fix IE. I would be interested in the solution if anyone finds one.

Re: Post sleep/hibernation status is not normal

I saw your thread of a few days ago. Our probs are not at all similar.

I have no probs going to sleep or hibernation or waking up(PC responds as programmed). The prob is, awake after sleep or hibernation (or screen saver), my PC does not go back to normal functioning unless I restart IE thru task manager or shut down thru POWER button then re-start. Either way, I lose all pre-dormant works which defeats the very purpose of getting a nap. Until I get helped, I make sure I stay awake if working on important matters. Or save, then shut down.

Re: Post sleep/hibernation status is not normal

Addendum: Just out of curiosity, I closed the lid to go to HIBERNATION mode. 15 minutes later, I resumed operations.... PC resumed as programmed and did resume with full normal functions. Then I closed again to go to HIBERNATION mode once more, then resumed it 1 hr. later and PC woke up not functional....IE and START button not responding.

Does this mean HIBERNATION feature is good for only a limited time period? If so, can it be re-programmed to enable normal resumed functions after longer period of dormancy?

Re: Post sleep/hibernation status is not normal

I have run out of patience with these HIBERNATION issues. The internet is full of blogs on these, apparently since VISTA started.

I agree with some who decided HIBERNATION feature is not worth all the problems and the more than 2GB space it requires. So, albeit halfheartedly, I let go. No more HIBERNATION for me. I have settled for just SLEEP.

What surprised me, though, was >2 GB equaled only 1% of the total but amounted to 6% more free space(I improved from 70% to 76%). I think I am noticeably a bit faster after deleting HIBERNATION file.

Re: Post sleep/hibernation status is not normal

My PC wiz friend just came back in town and yelled at me for disabling Hibernation feature. So I had no option but to re-enable. And guess what...my Hibernation feature is back and perfectly functioning. Apparently, sometimes we need to wait a few seconds post-hibernation before resuming computing.
