Folder deleted after reboot

Hi,
Some times after I reboot vista (ultimate 64bit), random folders in C drive are deleted.
I already lost 4 games and 2 apps (~40 GB).
I think it's happening only after restart and only on C drive, but it's really hard to watch all (4) drives.
Any one has an idea how to solve it/why is it happening?

Hello Shahar, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It may be a virus or some other malware causing this. I would recommend that you run a very thorough antivirus and spyware scan to be safe.

I already ran a full system scan with NOD32 and it found nothing, currently running full scan with Ad-Aware, I'll see if that finds anything

Ad-Aware found one trojan but it's something new, so it can't be the one that causes the problem.
Running Spybot now, I'll post the result ASAP.

btw I ran a full HD test and it came out fine.

Spybot found nothing special, just cookies...

Any other ideas?

Do you have any type of disk cleaning program running that may be responsible?

The only other thing I can recommend to do is to format and reinstall Vista. If you have some unknown malware, this should wipe it out.

I have ccleaner running everyday but it shouldn't delete that kind of files.
And even if it does it wouldn't explain why this is happening only after reboot and not every day

I have not seen CCleaner doing this to me either.

Are you dual booting with another OS (ex: XP)? If so, then you might need to do this tutorial for the same reasons to hide XP from seeing Vista.

I am dual booting with XP, but i haven't logged in to XP since I installed Vista.
Anyway this tutorial is about XP deleting Vista's restore points, do you think it's deleting random folders as well?

btw I do missing restore points but I'm almost sure it's vista's updates that cause this because I do have a restore point to before the last folder was deleted.

Well, since you are not booting into XP, I would not think that would be the cause. Try doing a System Restore using a restore point dated before this problem to see if that helps.

I can see using 'Previous Versions' in context menu of C drive that it would bring back the last folder that deleted, that's not so important because there were only games in it.
What's really important is to figure out why is it happening and stop this so nothing important will be deleted in the future.

It could be number of things that may be causing it, so it may be almost impossible to find out exactly what the source of the problem is unless you noticed it just starting after you installed or change something on your system. I suppose that you could look though Event Viewer to see if something stands out in one of the logs to help narrow it down, but it's basically a needle in a hay stack. Other than possibly a System Restore to before the problem, a clean install should fix the problem. :(
