password to expire

This is on my girlfriends computer. She is getting a ballon message in the sys tray for only a few seconds telling her she needs to change her password in 3 days. I don't ever remember putting in a password on this computer. I thought I went into control panel>users accounts and selected "remove password" a few months ago. Now, I go there, the computer now won't allow me to even create a password. Is she going to have a locked computer in 3 days? I typed run>netplwiz and got a message in the lusrmgr box saying: "this computer is running windows vista home premium. this snapin may not be used with this version of windows. to manange user accounts on this computer use the users account tool in the control panel."
There is no log on screen when I boot the computer. It goes directly
to the desktop. It's a home computer and not on any network. Could
this be some sort of rouge program or is this for real? She uses
adaware, ccleaner, spybot regularly. Kaspersky internet security 2009
is also installed. We bought both of these computers at the same time in June 08. They are both Dell 531s with Vista home premium. Mine has never asked for a password. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Hi Mark,

This involves changing a setting. The easiest way to do this is to click the start orb and type control userpasswords2 into the search box and press enter/return. Notice the space in the command. After providing administrative credentials, this brings up the following dialogue panel.

Click on the Advanced tab.
Capture1.JPG
In the Advanced user management section, click Advanced.

In the left hand column, Local Users and Groups (Local), click on Users.

In the central column, click on the name of the account that you wish to amend. In the right hand column, Actions, click on the name you selected to expand the options. Click on More Actions and Properties.

Click to place a tick in the checkbox next to Password never expires.

Thanks Dwarf. I did that already. This is the error message I get in the lusmgr box: "this computer is running windows vista home premium. this snapin may not be used with this version of windows. to manange user accounts on this computer use the users account tool in the control panel."

This error message box is on top of:

and won't allow me to do anything else except exit out of lusmgr. If I knew how to post a screenshot here, Iwould do it.but I won't be able to get to her computer until later today.
