Complete and non-recoverable file deletion

I do a lot of work on the road with proprietary unclassified information. I routinely use the "deleted files" option in IE so, if my laptop were stolen/lost, I wouldn't have to worry about someone recovering my work (I keep CD's up to date with everything). I just learned that there are tools available to recover "deleted" files and websites I thought were safely deleted. Anyone have a recommendation for safely deleting all files/websites/whatever so they cannot be recovered?

Acronis has a few tools that might work.

System One

  • CPU
pair of Intel E5430 quad core 2.66 GHz Xeons
    Motherboard
    Supermicro X7DWA-N server board
    Memory
    16GB DDR667
    Graphics Card(s)
eVGA 8800 GTS 640 MB video card
    Hard Drives
    SAS RAID
I went to the Acronis site, but they can't help except with complete hard disk wipe, which is not an option. Anyone have any other ideas??

Here is what a few poeple at a former employer did. We would have a seperate (small) partition, that would then look like a seperate disk, then we would wipe that seperate partition.

Also might look at File Shredder or File Shredder Software - Erase File permanently or what I use at work now Lavasoft File Shredder - Lavasoft
