| Vista Ultimate 32bit | I seem to have seriously messed up my Vista (ultimate) registry and need some help please. First off, System Restore is turned off, so I can’t use that. Also, my last registry backup is on a DVD that I can’t access! Just won’t open. I was following a post about how to move my personal folders (profiles) from C to D. That went okay, so followed another about getting the shortcuts on the start options to work again, and show the correct blue icons. Well, I seem to have gone very off track somewhere ‘cos now, if I create a new folder ANYWHERE, I can’t rename it to anything but New Folder. Also, windows won’t allow me to rename any existing folder on the PC. I can create new documents or text files etc ok. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp! If it's any help.... If I logon as TRUE Admin, or a different user, all is well. So I guess it's a local thing. I'm getting desparate with this..... |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: Damaged My Registry - Help please!? Hi dougal With the situation you have, the quickest fix would be to create a new "admin" account for yourself (using the "true admin" if you need to). You should then be able to access the current problem user's files and transfer what you need to your "new" user before deleting the "Problem User" you can save the user personal files at the point of deletion to protect anything you miss moving things manually. Not a fix directly but a practical workaround, anyway hope it helps |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | It's not a local thing, per se - you've changed the permissions on something, or else changed your account type to a limited user, or else removed yourself from normal permissions. Basically, it's your current profile that is hosed - make a new profile like barman said and you should be golden. *correction* - log in as the 'administrator' account (the one *named* administrator* and then create a new account - don't create one from the hosed current account).... |
