chkdsk runs at every boot

I made a system checkpoint and then installed reg mechanic 8.0 and spyware doctor 6.0. aqnd everything was fine. I did a hard shutdown a few days later . Held power for 10 sec. Since then chkdsk runs at every boot. I've let it run and not let it run to no use. I've undone all reg changes by reg mechanic and uninstalled reg mechanic. I've tried to run Vista system restore but it won't run because it keeps detecting a disk error. Ive done internet search and found a registry correction. I backed up the registry and checked the key to correct. The key did not need correction. I've found CMD lines to try but I'm bad at dos and didn't want to do more damage.

If the chkdsk program has been run with the "automatically repair" option. It will fix any file system errors. If the machine never gets into the desktop, even in safe mode, you could have another disk or memory problem.

Catch the machine booting up and tap the F8 key to get the boot menu. Start it in "Safe Mode" and then turn off the automatically restart option under Control Panel>System>advanced system settings>Startup and Recovery>Settings>uncheck the "automatically restart" checkbox

This will let you see any Blue Screen of Death errors. If and when you get that information, post back. Otherwise if you get into Safe Mode, schedule a disk check with the auto repair option and if you think you may have a physical problem on the disk, select the "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors option. Beware the second option can take hours to finish and is best done "just before you go to bed" kind of thing.

If your disk checks OK.

Use a VISTA DVD to do a "Repair Install" or back up your personal data and start over using the Recovery Partition.

Those utility programs like reg mechanic and the like can set chkdsk to run at startup all the time. They can also really ruin your system and conflict with built in Windows utilities resulting in problems if you are not extremely CAREFUL using them.

Your laptop came with a "Recovery" partition and there is an option on boot up to completely restore your laptop to the same condition you got it in.

Worse case scenario is that you will have to reinstall all your programs again and restore your personal data such as documents, email, address book, bookmarks and the like. The computer will do the restore to new thing on it's own.

Brink, I have checked the reqristy Key and it is not corupted, as noted in your step 2 fix, I'm assuming I should try replacing the autochkdsk.exe file next.
If that does not do it I'll go onto Jims advice posted below yours.

My big problem is duagher with the laptop has retunred to college and will be back dec 11 before I can try this fix.
