Need Permission.... BUT I AM THE ADMIN

I was trying to remove a program file AT&T security Installation Wizard.. The folder was corrupted... I was able to delete a few of the files... but two of them kept saying need permission... Now I am the Admin and I do have UAC unchecked..
In God's name whose permission do I need to get rid of these 2 remaining files...

Is this frustrating!!!

You don't have control of the file you need to change the permissions in the properties of the files.

Take Ownership of file

I experienced this trying to delete 'Viewpoint", I finally succeeded deleting it in Safe mode.

Use the MSCONFIG tool (<WINDOWS_KEY>+<R> to open the RUN dialog, type MSCONFIG and press <ENTER>") to disable any startup services and programs from that folder. After a restart, you should be able to delete those folders.

Although you should really be using "Control Panel"->"Programs"->"Uninstal a program". You should never have to delete a Program Files folder directly...

This program is not listed in Control panels...nor is it listed in programs under the start menu... Only remnants remain... It is under program files/AT&T.. I went into startup and disabled it...did a restart..but I still cannot remove from "program files."
BTW, I have many unchecked programs in the startup which no longer even exist anywhere... even though they are unchecked.. how can I remove from the startup services..

thank you, Ken

When I go into safe mode I can only access the "progams" within START... The file I am trying to delete is a "program file" and is NOT listed under the "programs" that I can view in safe mode.

Re: Need Permission.... BUT I AM THE ADMIN

Those "remnant files" you saw and tried to delete unsuccessfuly in normal start are not visible to you in safe mode? What about using "start search" just to know their locations and hunt them for deletion in safe mode? Or hunt them in regedit run(be careful with tweaking stuffs in registry ...wait for others to comment on this)?

OK. I went to the take ownership link and tried the automatic..

I Downloaded the take ownership program to desktop..right clicked and hit merge..then hit run BUT then instead of going to the next screen to click "contimue" it took me to a notepad window showing windows registry editor...

How do I ever get to the continue window as spelled out in the instructions.

thanks, ken
