Do I have everything in order?

Hi everybody.

This is what my system has and I would like to ask you guys if everything works to the maximum. Why do I only have 2.12 available of physical memory?

I would love to hear what you say guys. Tnx.

Hello Denise,

It would the amount of physical Memory that you have left over that Vista is not using. To test this, open Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESCAPE) and click on the Performance tab. The Memory graph shows how much actual RAM is being used. Below that the Available RAM should be the same or close to the 2.12 GB (2170.88 MB).

Thank you very much for your reply. So would you say that my windows ultimate 64 is working and using the whole amount of my computer insides? Or there something lacking to use the whole potential of my mashine?

Denise did you install 64 bit Vista on that laptop, or just assuming it is because it shows this,

Knowing how Toshiba likes to pretend that x64 Vista doesn't exist, I would lean towards in being 32 bit which would make what you are seeing regarding the available ram make perfect sense. Also according to the specs listed in that link your video card (ATI HD 3650) has 512 MB of ram and also uses HyperMemory, which uses system ram in addition to any ram that the card comes with,

Just guessing but if it is only 32 bit Vista just based on the video card alone, assuming it has 512 MB of its own ram and is configured to also use 512 MB of system ram, that makes 1 GB unavailable based on how 32 bit Windows handles 4 GB of ram being installed. If it is 32 bit Vista that you have installed this,

P.S. Shawn is there anything in the tutorial section dealing with 32 bit and 4 GB? I searched, but either my search ability sucks (it does on most forums ), or it isn't there.

Vista will naturally make use of anything you give it as needed. To get the most out of your hardware you should use the latest driver versions. They can help resolve issues that the device may have had.

Hi Stormy,

No. The 32-bit and 4GB of RAM was suppose to have been fixed with the SP1. However, a 32-bit OS can only truly see and use 3.2 GB of the RAM.

I bought my lap top with vista home premium 32. I didnt like that the whole potential of the mashine wasnt used , so i bought ultimate 64 and instaled everything manualy, all the drivers and the rest. So I hope now my mashine uses the whole potential. Is that right?

Was hoping that you had something in the tutorial section that was a little more user friendly than the link I posted.

Yeah, I have seen posts on other forums where people have thought the "fix" with SP1 made it that all the 4 GB was available, only to find out that all that changed was that the full 4 GB was only being reported but allowable usage remained the same.

Hey Denise,
You need to be happy with your machine.
If full potential means using all of the RAM then yes it does.
If not, then join the club. You will always be finding something that you can Mod even if it means buying a new lappy!!

Hi once again.

I would just like to ask anybody , why dont my usb ports work? i have 3 of them and only one of them works. So i cannot use my mouse and my keybord at the same time. Can anybody help me please?
I have already tryed to disable and enable them, but no luck. Please help.

Hello Denise,

Check your BIOS settings to make sure that the USB ports are set as enabled, and also check to make sure that they are connected properly to the motherboard.

Yeah, like Brink and Stormy said, before I installed SP1 it didn't report the full memory but after it did at 4gb in the WEI window. But yeah, it only use 3.3gb of it. (referring to 32 bit)

However i have checked my bios and everything seems to be switched on I really need my USB Ports to work One of them says that cannot recognise any of the devices, when if i plug it the USB that works everything is fine. And the third usb just wont work at all Please help May be I need to update my Bios for windows ultimate 64 or something? Help.

Denise,

Have you checked to make sure that the USB ports are connected good and proper to the motherboard USB pins? It could be this, or the ports may be bad.

If all else fails, you could get a USB hub that plugs into the good USB port to give you the extra USB ports you need. They are pretty cheap these days.

Denise, did these ports work with 32bit?


Right click on computer, select properties,select device manager, accept the UAC prompt, left click on the cross next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Right click on each device named standard, select properties, select advanced, and make sure there is no tick by Don't tell me about usb errors.

Right click on each device named USB Root Hub, select properties, select advanced, select reset hub, Select Power Management, make sure there are no ticks in the boxes.

Try the usb again and let me know

Sorry Denise. Do not open the laptop as Pooch posted. I was thinking of a desktop.

Pooch I ve tryed everything you said, and everything is in order, no problems. Any other suggestions?
