Re: windowmediaplayerstoppedworking

It looks like a visualisation problem. Either turn off visualisation or select a different visualisation to see if that fixes your crash.

Re: windowmediaplayerstoppedworking

I agree. It looks the ribbon visualization is corrupted or missing. Try turning off visuals, like smarteye there said.

Re: windowmediaplayerstoppedworking

To turn off visualisations, Open Media player, right-click and select No Visualisation. You must be in the Now Playing Tab.

Re: windowmediaplayerstoppedworking

Okay, I had the very same problem and found this forum. I know this issue is now quite old but in the event then it may help someone else, I have a quick fix! d;^)

The problem is indeed the Skin profile; it seems it may be a trojan, although I have not yet confirmed this as of writing. The only fact is is that the Skin profile is empty except for one file called "Ribbons.dll".

The main problem is that Media Player crashes before it loads; rendering any parameter change redundant, as it is impossible to load Windows Media Player to do so. Windows does not allow a repair option or a safe-mode (Microsoft Morons! >:^( ) furthermore, it will not allow WMP to be re-installed! This is, in my opinion, a very poor example of Microsoft software control. Anyway, moaning aside, here is how I fixed it.

Windows Media Player (as with many Microsoft programs) allows argument parameters to be loaded straight from the command prompt. By forcing it to load a non-existent skin it Opens the program in non-skin mode and offers a "Cant find that skin - type of error" (I forget what was written now :) ). So to do this open the command prompt by typing "cmd" without the quotes into the start search bar in the start button. Then type the following...

wmplayer “c:\filename.wma”?wmpskin=headspace"

...including quotes. Assuming you don't have a skin called headspace attributed to a file called filename.wma then this should fix the issue, at least it did for me :^) Let me know if this helps? TopCat...
