Autoplay/autorun doesn't!!

Autoplay is set ON and I've reset to defaults. I've googled and done everything I can find to fix, but nothing does.
The only thing I couldn't find was a "Data" item in Microsoft's page:-

The Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged on user only option might be turned off. To turn this option on, follow these steps:
  • Click Start, and then click Run.
  • In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  • Locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  • In the navigation pane, under Data, if the value for allocatecdroms is 0, go to step 5.
  • In the navigation pane, under Data, if the value for allocatecdroms is 1, right-clickallocatecdroms, and then click Modify.
  • In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
  • Exit Registry Editor.
  • Test to determine whether the issue is resolved.
but it may be for XP only.
Microsoft's autofix.exe crashes in Vista.

Flash drives don't bring up anything, but are found with explorer.
Music & DVDs just sit there. If I use explorer to explore, they'll spin and let me view.

I've run out of ideas.

What else can I try?
