SP1 Disk Clean up tool

I was going to run SP1 Disk Clean up tool but I need clarification from this warning from BRINK:
"WARNING
Running the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Disk Clean-up tool permanently removes the ability to uninstall the Vista SP1. Do not run this tool unless you have no plans of uninstalling the Vista SP1 and just want to save or regain hard drive space. The only option to remove the SP1 after using this tool is to do a clean install of Vista".

If for any reason I need to clean install Vista, would this be a problem? In other words, would I be able to... after having used SP1 Disk Clean up tool?

Re: SP1 Disk Clean up tool

Hello CoolNewYorker,

Please do not post multiple posts asking the same thing. It makes it harder for people to be able to help you when they do not what you have already tried and did not try, and it wastes their and your time by suggesting something you already tried.

See the answer given from your other post location:

Where Did My Hard Drive Space Go??

This does not affect being able to do a clean install of Vista. You will have no problem doing this. It only affects the ability to uninstall SP1 itself from Vista.

Re: SP1 Disk Clean up tool

OK, I had 259 GB free of 298 GB before running SP1 Disk clean-up and I did not gain anything after. How come?

Re: SP1 Disk Clean up tool

Since SP1 was included in your Vista installation DVD, it must not have needed to create any backups.

Re: SP1 Disk Clean up tool

Now he tells me.

That's why I had asked (and yep...it was in another thread. My mistake!) if it matters whether SP1 is factory installed or installed later on as an upgrade. But I hope others will learn from my mistake...meaning, no need to run SP1 clean up tool if new PC comes factory equipped with SP1.

I probably would have run it anyway out of curiosity and only because I have no intention to un-install SP1. Thanks again, for clarifying it does not preclude System Recovery re-installation.

Re: SP1 Disk Clean up tool

I didn't know if it would save you any space or not since SP1 was included with your Vista installation DVD. It would not have hurt anything to try and see if you could have gained some space from it.

Sorry you didn't gain any space from it.

Re: SP1 Disk Clean up tool

I know, I know ....but as I said, I would have run it anyway. Besides, I'm loaded:
260 GB free of 298 GB ain't bad for 87% free space. I gained plenty from Systen Restore space allotment reduction.

Thanks, Shawn for you patience.
