| Vista Ultimate x64 | Control Panel showing wrong information. In short, my control panel (Start>Computer) is showing I have an A drive, when I don't... And not showing my CD/DVD Burner, when I do. Any suggestions where to start looking? Tried uninstalling any information under Device Manager>Disk drives.. stilll no go. Removed the hardware, confirmed connections, restarted without CD/DVD, rebooted reconnected hardware. Power works to device, tray opens, does not show icon in control panel and does not play media CD's. As for the A drive I've no clue. Thanks. Last edited by Chigurh; 12-12-2008 at 08:28 PM.. Reason: error in reporting problem location. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Control Panel showing wrong information. I was able to remove the A: drive from the BIOS. Still no luck with the CD/DVD working. If the device failed would the drive still open/close? |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit | Re: Control Panel showing wrong information. It might be driver probs. Step 1. If driver is missing, go to microsoft downloads and look for the driver. Or try Step 2 : Reinstall device drivers: 1. Click on search. 2.Type Device manager. 3. Open Device Manager window 4. Click "+" beside CD/DVD Device Category. 5. Right-click the listed CD/DVD/RW and select Uninstall. 6. Restart the system. Windows will redetect the device on restart and reinstalls the drivers automatically 3. Recovery Manager's drivers restoration. In Recovery Manager, stay away from Sytem Recovery. You want Program or Drivers recovery. If you had unstalled some DVD related "Bloatwares" see if you can re-install one a time thru Recovery Manager and find out which one is essential for your DVD/CD system to function. 4. Worse comes to worst, you can do some minor surgery on the optical tray Do not use force. For this, you might want to wait for some techie or wiz members to comment on. How do open:This on HP Pavilion dv7 series.notebook. If it does not apply on yours, do not do it. 1. Prepare the computer for disassembly. 2. Remove the Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screw 1 that secures the optical drive to the computer. 3. Insert a thin tool, such as a paper clip, into the media tray release hole 2. (The optical drive media tray releases from the optical drive.) 4. Use the media tray frame to slide the optical drive to the left. 5. Remove the optical drive. 6. Position the optical drive with the optical drive bracket toward you. 7. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws 1 that secure the optical drive bracket to the optical drive. 8. Remove the optical drive . Reverse the above procedure to reassemble and install the optical drive. My past experience with this same prob...after doing all these, the prob was actually one of 4 recent automatic up-dates. I forgot which one. Last edited by coolnewyorker; 12-13-2008 at 05:14 PM.. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Control Panel showing wrong information. Did a combination of the above, with the reinstalling of drivers and bought a set of new cables. Either way all is well. Thanks for the support. |
