I have a malfunctioning DVD drive that isn't the common problem.

In my Vista 32bit Home Premium install I lost the use of the DVD portion of my optical drive. CD's still work fine but it won't recognize DVD's as if the drive were only a CD unit. It's a PATA device Creative DVD1240E and I used this drive to install Vista on this computer so I know it works. It also worked just fine when XP was installed.

The drive does show up as normal in my Device Manager and there are no other issues I can see with it.

I tried the typical registry hack but I had neither the high nor the low filter to delete in that subkey.

So I'm stumped. Can anybody help? Thank you.
