Help with Windows error recovery desperatly needed!

Hi,

2 weeks ago i was playing Football Manager 2009 before i got a mesage saying that there was an error. The next day i turned on my Advent laptop and got a screen saying, 'Windows has failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally'.

I have tryed both of these options, with Startup Recovery it starts to loads Windows Vista then just goes to a blank screen, and if i start windows normally it just stays on the loading screen. I have tried to load in all the safe modes but eac one stops at the same time with the /Windows/system32/drivrs/crcdisk.sys, i also have a Advent System Recovery disc, but then i get the blue screen saying, ' A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage' at the bottom i get Technical Infomation saying, ' STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC000005, 0xF76130BF, 0x00000000, 0x00000001)' and under it says, ' pci.sys - Address F76130BF base at F760C000, Datestamp 3b5e886'.

Any advice on how to sort this out as am starting to get really worried!
Many thanks in advance
Ross

From this page:

Troubleshooting Windows STOP Messages

0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
The Windows kernel detected an illegal or unknown processor instruction. A Stop 0x1E condition can be caused by invalid memory and access violations similar to those that generate Stop 0xA errors. This default Windows error handler typically intercepts these problems if error-handling routines are not present in the code itself.

I would suggest you go into the Recovery Environment and choose the option to test your memory.

Thanks for the advise but none of that has helped as it does not apply to my problem, or i just dont understand as all the computer talk goes over my head!

Any more advise?

Try putting in your Vista CD and boot from CD. If that works, then select repair windows. That might just fix it. Maybe. Worth a shot....

That sucks... You could ask the place you bought it from to borrow a CD or you could probably get one from them... That would be the easiest way... Or borrow one from a friend or something. I cant really think of anything else that you could do though...

Too many computer manufacturers don't furnish a Vista installation DVD with their pcs that are pre-installed with Vista. Often they only have a hidden recovery partition that you can access to take back your pc to its original factory installation state! (Thus you lose your data and all installed applications, setting changes, etc.)
If you don't have an installation DVD, then you cannot reinstall Vista without using this recovery partition, and you cannot access the new Vista Recovery Environment, which is what corresponds to XP's Recovery Console. So, if you don't have a Vista installation DVD, what do you do in order to access the Vista Recovery Environment, at least? You go to this site and download the makings for a recovery disk:
Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download — The NeoSmart Files

Of course, you have to have another pc with a CD burner on it and a program such as Nero Burning ROM or Roxio Easy CD Creator in order to burn the bootable Vista recovery CD. Then you get into the Recovery Environment by booting to the CD and run the memory diagnostic:

Thanks, thinking about it, thatmay well sort it out, but how do i do this? can i just put in a blanc cd into this computer an click burn? and then put it in my laptop and will the laptop load it like a recovery disc? i have tried my advent recovery disc but it dosent work and i get the blue screen. Is that relivant?

Thanks again LeeTutor!
there will be reps coming your way!

After you download the ISO file, you use a CD burning program to burn it as a bootable CD. The site I gave you for the download has a link to another page explaining how to do it:

Burning ISO Images to a CD or DVD - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki

Then you will probably need to get into your pc's BIOS in order to be sure your primary boot device is set to the CD drive rather than the hard drive. Then boot to it and use the memory diagnostic:

Yeah that is basically the process. Burn the disk in your other computer, and then put it into your laptop. If it doesnt boot off the CD the first time, restart it and hit either esc, F1, or del and it should bring up either a boot menu or BIOS. From the boot menu, use the arrow keys to select Boot Priority, and hit enter, and change the order from HDD first to CD/DVD drive first, and hit save and exit. If it goes to BIOS, then you need to scan through the tabs (I dont remember which one it is off the top of my head) and find boot device priority, and do the same as i said for the other. Then save and exit will restart your device, and should boot from the CD first. Hopefully it boots from CD the first time, as it will save you a lot of effort.

Let us know if it works, or if you need more specialized instruction!

EDIT: Oops, it looks like i missed the second page. LeeTutor probably has better explinations, mine is a bit vague....
