Vista cannot read CD/DVD inserted but Dopus does

Another Vista Ultimate 32bit weird prob I have.

Whenever I insert any disc be it CD/DVD, and I double-click on the DVD icon to open it, I keep getting "Prepare this disc" option to Live format the disc. The disc could be anything a closed session disc, a manufacturer disc, I keep getting this prob. So only two ways to go ahead.

1. I've DOpus - Directory Opus, an alternative to Windows Explorer in which I can Sometimes view the disc, though not always
2. The best way I've figured out is for me to simply click "Next" and wait for Windows to tell me that it cannot format my disc and then I can access the contents.
3. Auto-run registry fix doesnt cure it. (updated after flavirus replied)

Any Ideas why this is happening? I uninstalled the drivers of my drives, I've two, Sony DVD-writer SATA and Lite-on DVD-writer IDE. In WinXP I didn't have this prob with these drives, so i know this is a software issue.

Navigate to key:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CdRom

find phrase AutoRun -it should by set to 1 -if is 0 fix it +restart

Theoreticly if AutoRun is set to 0 also DVD should work without autoplay but many new devices require to work properly setting AutoRun=1. I had this on my new machine.

Thanks Flavirus for replying so quick however the Auto-run fix that you provided doesnt work and yes I did restart the system.

as I'm writing I've inserted a previously backedup CD and DVD in both my drives and whenever I double-click the drive icon, I get "Prepare this disc". Basically Vista 32bit keeps thinking I've inserted a blank disc. I wonder why? And then I click to reformat the disc (which I know it cannot as I myself have burnt it by closing the session), WIndows reports that I cannot be formatted. Now when I go to double-click the drive(s), Voila I can read the disc. SO strange.

Found a Fix

Hey just found a fix for my problem. I just disabled the irritating "Prepare this disc" option to Live format in Vista and it worked. I used Vista Manager to turn it off
Tweak and Optimize your Windows Vista - Vista Manager

There is an option in there to turn off the function, dont recall where. BTW it is paid software, but I bet some other free counterpart can do the same.
