New range of drives coming in 2009


Toshiba has unveiled the world's first 2.5in 512GB solid state drive (SSD), designed to provide a high level of performance and endurance for use in notebook computers, and gaming and home entertainment systems.
The company also unveiled a broad family of SSDs based on its 43nm Nand chips, offering capacities of 64GB, 128GB and 256GB in 1.8in or 2.5in enclosures or as SSD Flash Modules.

Hi michael,

Talking to someone the other day who is using SSD system based on 32GB units and paying 16 Pounds Sterling per gig - so I would call that a bit steep. :eek:

they will drop in price in time I'm sure :D

My Savvio 10K SAS 2.5" drives are $2 US a GB. $300 for 146GB.

Let's put these costs into perspective.

I realise that this is about conventional HDDs, but I would expect that the same will prevail for the SSD devices. And yes, you did read that correctly - a 10MB drive.
