Vista Locked Out

I run a small business and recently had to lay off an employee. The Vista based PC that she was assigned to is screen locked and she had set the password to a value only she knows. Is there a way to bypass this? Ps. We don't know the Admin password.

Did she lock it on purpose? First, you contact her. Ask for the password. If she refuses, you have an attorney contact her regarding committing a cybercrime against your company. File a police report and have her arrested for commiting a cybercrime. She could be arrested and sued for any lost data, lost revenue caused by her locking out the computer. Tell her you will be hiring a computer security firm to recover the password and information at her expense. She could be facing thousands of dollars in cost.

You don't want to access the computer yourself, if she locked it intentionally. You want to file a police report and hire a firm to access it. In case you have court proceedings.

Take the computer to a professional data recovery expert. The only other way would be for you to reload Windows and risk losing your data.

And besides, we have noway of knowing whether or not you're being upfront with us ubout being locked out by you errent employee.

The best advice I could give would be to file charges against her, and have the courts "ask her nicely" to tell you what the password is.

Thanks - I looked up some stuff on the net and found something called "PC Login Now" which is a downloaded OSI file to be burned onto a CD and put into the PC and rebooted... Has anyone heard of this? Is it safe? Just wondering - we actually got a hold of the former employee and she gave it up!

Anything of value to your company on the computer? You will want to audit the computer to make sure nothing was missing or deleted. I would also change the administrator account and next time create a user with no rights to change passwords.
