Help no writing privileges??

I keep getting errors like "No writing privileges in C:\" so anytime I run a program that needs to write to C:\ it doesn't work and I can't create any files in C:\ the only option i get when I right click -> new is Folder with an admin symbol next to it...I'm the admin on the computer and I'm running windows vista home premium 32bit how can I fix this?? Oh and I also tried running a system restore but it said there was an unknown error during the restore

The C:\ root folder is protected by default. And being an Admin user doesn't help, because in Vista, Admin users don't have the same free-run access privileges that they did in XP.

If these "No writing privileges" are being produced by a specific program, have you tried locating a Vista compatibility update from the developers thatmay resolve the problem?

Failing that,have you attempted to run the program in XP compatibility mode?

It's not just one program it's every program. I don't have any errors like this on my other computer that runs the same version of vista and the programs i'm trying to run work fine on the same version on my other computer

can you create an admin account and see if your app runs from there??

also are you running from a standard admin or are you running as THE Administrator...

Double check to make sure that the C: drive owner is the default Trusted Installer.

Ok I tried making myself the trusted installer but it gives me an error

"An error occured when applying security information to:

C:\Documents and Settings

Access is denied."

Try again, but for the C: drive itself, leave the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box unchecked.

I'm wondering if somehow the security settings for the C: drive got changed.
I would compare those settings on the good computer and problem computer.

Go to Computer, right click on the C: drive, select Properties, then the Security tab.
Compare both computers, especially the settings under Users and Administrators.
