| Vista Ultimate x64 | Most newly installed programs arent displayed in start menu. Greetings. I visit this forum for a while now, just reading on problems and eventual fixes. But since i got my Vista, theres a issue that i wasn't be able to fix yet,so i actually signed up today,to ask a question myself. ![]() Heres my problem.(Vista Ultimate 64) I have a Admin and a Regular User account for surfing, gaming etc. But whenever i install a program/game while usign the user account,it installs correctly, but there are never entrys/folders/shortcuts in the start menu. Some programs (mostly lil tools) will show up there, but pretty much none of the games i install ever does. But if i log into my Admin account,i can find all the shortcuts/folders in the start->programs menu there. Yes,i can create shortcuts and copy and paste them into the start menu on the user account, but i was wondering if theres a setting or option that could fix this annoyance. Thank you and i appreciate any help. Turrican Last edited by Turrican; 12-28-2008 at 04:11 PM.. Reason: Somehow posting turned my post into one wall of text...fixed that |

Hi Turrican and welcome to Vista Forums ![]() Do these programs/games request administrative privileges to install? If they do, and you grant them the necessary privileges (which you will have to, otherwise they won't proceed), then it could be that you will find the shortcuts if you log in to the administrator account. Some allow themselves to be installed for the current user or for all users, so choose the latter option. For those that do not offer this option, you will have to manually create the shortcuts. Note that, even with the shortcuts present, you might need to right click and select Run as administrator in order to execute it. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Most newly installed programs arent displayed in start menu. Hello and thanks for the quick reply and welcome. Yes,every program i install need admin rights to install. Most programs dont offer any "current or all user" options and create a shortcut in the start menu. Others who offer it and i select all users, wont create a entry either. However,i can run any program without admin rights, once installed using shortcuts self created. It just seemed odd to me,that its possible to install a program under a non admin account (even if admin rights are needed for the installation),yet the start menu entries are created for the admin account. Doenst seem to make sense. |
