Sidebar Works, But Doesn't...

Hey all,

Quite a nice forum you have here, I'm glad to have found it. I'm looking for a little help with a sidebar issue, perhaps someone out there has had a similar experience.

I'm running Home Premium x64. The build is only ~1month old and previously the sidebar was working fine. Apparently I've fouled something up. The sidebar loads fine, runs fine, looks fine. Here is the problem; Gadgets like Pro Weather, or Hermes, where the user has the option of opening up a larger screen to the left of the gadget.. those screens are unresponsive.

For example in the weather app, I click the little arrow to expand the gadget, it brings up the larger window with options to view the radar, or nightly forecasts, or moon phases etc, but my clicking ANYWHERE on that screen is unresponsive.. it just doesn't work.

I thought maybe it was the weather app, but then noticed the same thing on Hermes. Hermes is a news ticker. When you hover over a story it brings up the full story in a pane to the left, with clickable links for the actual web story. Again, all mouse input in this pane seems to be restricted, and the links do not work.

I don't recall the exact moment when I lost control of this. Over the past few weeks I have installed / uninstalled Norton AV, and used a utility called 'Vista Manager'. Currently I am running no AV. The Vista Manager program is pretty neat actually. I didn't make any kind of drastic changes with it, but thats not to say it isn't someone related. Maybe it stopped a required service or something? Who Knows...

Any thoughts are welcomed, and thanks for reading

Thanks for the suggestion. I ran the sfc and it did find errors. So I ran the scan/replace and it said it found errors but was unable to repair them. So I repeated the process in safe mode, only to have the same results.

pastebin - collaborative debugging tool

There are the error sections of the log.

I looked at my sidebar settings.ini, as it seems to be referenced heavily. Its very short and basic. The paste of the .ini is @ pastebin - collaborative debugging tool

Still stumped  Any more thoughts are appreciated.

Ya, I did.. with no luck.

However! I did just figure it out. It was window blinds, or something theme related. I switched from aero back to windows classic, back to aero.. and all is well. The strange this is I remember running this theme for quite some time with the gadget(s) working, then lost it all of a sudden.

And isn't it somewhat strange that switching back and forth would fix it? Very odd. I was considering killing the window blinds processes and re-running the sfc fix, but just hopping themes did the trick.

Thanks for all of your advice.

Each time I use this scan, I got cured even when it always says some corrupt whatever were not fixed. But I used it only when subtle minor things are not in order...like stacked up windows not returning to original size when unstacked.

BTW...these third party gadgets are buggy, lots of holes needing plugging and kinda unstable. Luckily, when they harm, it usually is this kind...minor.
