Hi Guys,

Arrrrgh..here we go again.

I've been having a few problems over the past couple of days....this computer IS NOT connected to the internet.

First off...I had a BSOD on shutdown after installing new Beta Wacom drivers......which seemed to escalate into the following random issues:-

BSOD:
0x0000001e
0x00000024
0x0000003b
0x000000a during shut down
Fltmgr.sys failed

Random warm boots after reboot but before the login screen.

After login service errors:
Superfetch has stopped working
Wacom Tablet service has stopped working
NTFS has stopped working

Ah! rouge beta driver, I thought. So I disconnected all drives except the System Drive and reformatted/clean installed Vista x64. Install went OK but after the main reboot I still had Superfetch has stopped working and then a 0x00000034 BSOD followed by a 0x00000024 BSOD,then NTFS is not working,... surely not the same issue on a clean install, I also had a werfault.exe pop up after connecting all my drives.

This indicates a hardware issue but I'm not sure where to look....I'm currently performing a chkdsk on all drives.

Any ideas guys.....many thanks.

Chris

Hi Damocles, welcome to the borad.

Here is what I find from here: Windows Vista Stop Errors Or Blue Screen Of Death

STOP 0x0000001E or KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
The Windows kernel detected an illegal or unknown processor instruction, often the result of invalid memory and access violations caused by faulty drivers or hardware devices. The error message often identifies the offending driver or device. If the error occurred immediately after installing a driver or service, try disabling or removing the new addition.
STOP 0x00000024 or NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
A problem occurred within the NTFS file-system driver. A similar Stop error, 0x23, exists for FAT32 drives. The most likely cause is a hardware failure in a disk or disk controller. Check all physical connections to all hard disks in the system and run CheckDisk. KB228888 will help you.

As suggested above, I really like to emphasize in making sure your SATA cables are good. Best of all, replace them with aftermarket ones. They seem okay but the contacts break down intermittently under the high frequency vibration of the HDDs.

Please keep us inform.

Interesting......I shall investigate the sata cables further. There is one in particular that is tightly wedged under the 8800 GTS GPU, between the motherboard and the card....very poor Asus board design.

So far, the CHKDSK's are good.....but a NTFS problem is not good in my book and this is costing me time that should be spent on work........Thanks for the tip!!

Of course!.....I'll let you know what's gong on and I'll keep you informed.

Turns out it was caused by a bad ram module......Just put in the old stuff, 8gb :( and it's all fine.

How can ram cause NTFS errors?...just curious if anyone knows.

Glad to hear you spotted the problem, but I still think those SATA cables came with the mobo should be replaced to avoid problem down the road.

Bad ram gives wrong addressing, therefore it could have been pointing at anything, but in most case at data accessing which is HDD related.

Happy new year!
