Change icons on quick launch task bar?

hi,

a minor question perhaps. I drag program icons to quick launch taskbar and they are the usual icon only smaller. the big blue W for word though turns into some nondescript thing. anyway to get the big blue W?

also I dragged some folders like documents, etc and they all look the same (little tiny folders). anyway to visually differentiate them> I know one can mouse over and see what they are, but perhaps there is a way to use text?

sure is nice to have a completely icon free desktop now :-)

Re: Change icons on quick launch task bar?

Actually, this is something i know how to do on XP, and have'nt played with it on Vista yet, so gimme one sec...

Ok got it. If you want to change the icon for a folder, then right click on the shortcut, and select "properties"
Then click on the "shortcut" tab. Click on the "change icon" button on the bottom, and you have your selection of preloaded windows icons to choose from. If you choose "browse" from the top, you can select another icon image from another location.

To change something like the Word picture, it should be the same.... hang on... *checks*
The button for change icon doesnt work for my Word shortcut, but it might for yours.

Hope this helped you out! Let us know!

P.S. Hope my reply was quick enough for you

Hi msongs,

In addition to what lordbob suggested, you might want to read a thread that gives you an alternative to putting a bunch of icons on your taskbar. Might be worth a try.

Seems quite a few members asking about this subject today. LOL

Hello Msongs,

This may be able to help you with this. It will show you how to change the size of the icons in Quick Launch.

Hope this helps,

Re: Change icons on quick launch task bar?

hey thanks for your suggestions. what I want is to substitute icons I guess. don't see a way to get the big blue W for word tho. peculiar. for example one icon is for my website, would be cute to put my site logo as the image instead of a generic folder image. well there are limits to everything, eh?

Re: Change icons on quick launch task bar?

The icon selection is too non-decscript and limited. I think you're stuck.

Other alternative is keep quick launch icons to the minimum (default plus one or two additional) to keep ample room for buttons when multitasking.... and have the others pinned up to Start menu. In Start menu they are titled...and their icons become of secondary importance.

Re: Change icons on quick launch task bar?

Msongs,

I suppose that you could change the icon for the shortcut to one you want instead from in the Quick Launch hidden system folder (STEP TWO step 2) location:

C:\Users\(User Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Hope this helps,
Shawn
