Recent items - mysterious items appearing

I recently uninstalled several versions of norton including norton 360 and installed NOD32 smart security and NOD32 antivirus as well as Your Uninstaller 2008! in doing so all nortons features/fixes (saved included)/links/files were removed as well as some registry keys, corrupt files and folders.

Several files and photos appeared in the recent items menu after the uninstalling/installing and fixing broken and corrupt files and removing registry keys (everything that the uninstaller does) was finished its tasks. These files we not opened by me, who was the last on the computer.

does anyone know how items that I did not open suddenly appear in the recent items of the vista menu?

it seems that this answer is a matter of trust now, not just interest.

Hello Rivista, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Not sure how they may have gotten in there, but you might see if clearing the Recent Items list can get rid of them for you.

Recent Items List - Clear History

Hope this helps,

Re: Recent items - mysterious items appearing

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for your help, that would certainly get rid of the files now ...

but i need an explanation as to how they got there in the first place and i am not very proficient with vista ... it was not my computer i was doing the install on - although i had permission - and now these files appear and i am being punished for seemingly having looked at these files - I was simply doing an install and uninstall

Re: Recent items - mysterious items appearing

The only explanation that I and anyone can probably offer is that perhaps Vista thought the files were opened as the uninstaller was removing them, thus listing them in Recent Items. Only a guess though.

Re: Recent items - mysterious items appearing

thank you, but it was not my computer, it was my friends and i was doing them a favour by installing/uninstalling and now, with these files appearing in his recent items, he believes i was opening files on his computer, which i did not.

Rivista,

LOL, some gratitude for helping him clean up his mess.

You might tell him to clean up his own mess next time.

Re: Recent items - mysterious items appearing

I would not worry about it. If you guys are good friends it will hopefully not be an issue for long.
