I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Vista home premium 64 bit sustem. The computor has worked fine until last week when it refused to boot. After the dell flash screen I get a black screen with a error message (invalid partition table) By pushing f12 i was able to run a diagnostics test that was normal. I took out the HD and connected it to another computor and was able to download my files and it also appeared to be working fine. Could this be the MBR or some other problem. Does anyone know of a good 3rd party disk to repair the MBR or the partition table?
Thanks for your help. RVioce
Thanks Shawn:
I have it fixed and what I found out may help others. Went to Dell online help and found out that there is a media Direct button just to the left of the on off button on dells XPS computers. Never push this key as it changes the boot partition and you receive the error message invalid partition table. I was able to push the button again and got my computer working, however some people are not so lucky and had to change it with 3rd party help. Dell is aware of the problem but have no fix yet. Some have tried to disable the button but with little luck. Anyone can read about this on the help page. Hope this helps others.
