USB Problems - Intermittent fail/drop outs

Hello all.

Searching for USB problems and solutions I came upon this quote on 04-08-2008 09:49 AM.

Any further comment please. M problem listed under.

Vista has major problems with USB. Google and you will see thousands of
people suffering similar problems. Microsoft just do not seem able to fix
the USB problems in Vista

My problem is that just occasionally my USB connections fail (disconnect) for no apparent reason.

The keyboard or mouse may not initialize on boot up and my wireless modem also plugged into the back of my rig sometimes looses connection. Removing and reinserting onto the (and any of the 6 available) ports seems to fix. I've read extensively and even asked back at the shop were the hardware came from and it still seems Vista and USB have problems.

Yes I checked bios etc, but haven't tried a MS k/b and mouse. My specs below.
In the 6 rear USB slots I have only 4 in use (mouse, KB, Webcam and modem).

Do I need a (powered) hub?

Any thoughts or comments please :D
