Problem| Vista isn't showing my actual cpu speed!

Hello, i am owning vista ultimate x64. with core 2 duo e8400 3GHz & 2.83 GHZ.
always, when i was checking the computer properties i saw this written: intel core 2 duo e8400 3GHz & 2.83 GHZ.
anyway, last night i made an overlcock from 2.83 ghz to 3.2 ghz, when i entered after the OC to the computer properties i saw that the computer has changed to 3GHZ & 3.2GHz.
then i set the cpu speed back to the normal speed (normal fsb) and then when i checked system properties i saw 3GHz & 2.66 GHz.
it was really strange because cpu-z and other programs showed me that i am using 2.83 ghz and not 2.66.
anyway, i tried to fix it and i did again overclock to 3.2 ghz.
but then, when i started the computer again and clicked on system properties, i saw still Intel core 2 duo e8400 3GHz & 2.66 GHZ, but cpu-z and some other programs showed me that i have 3200 mhz.
so my question is this:
why vista is not showing my actual bus speed and cpu speed and it's showing wrong cpu speed.
my second question is:
even if the cpu's speed is not written on the computer properties, as long as it's written on cpu-z and other programs that i have 3200 mhz, the computer will use it, right? or it will use just the 2.66 ghz that is written on vista?

sorry for my poor english, hope you will answer me
Yours,
Roy.

I shouldn't worry too much about it..Vista's not that accurate in these things...I'd rely on the CPU-Z numbers....

....and look in the bios - that should tell you the real speed too. Just to check.

Might be useful to us if you filled out your system specs so we can better help you.
Also screen shots might help to, ones that show cpu-z and what Vista System says.
I know mine says:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz 2.50GHz

2.50GHz - What it is set at now...

2.50GHz - What the CPU is defalt

When I have it OCed it looks like this:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 3.0GHz 2.50GHz

Well, something is definately iffy there. According to Intel, your CPU is rated at 3.0 Ghz so it should read E8400 @3.0Ghz 3.0Ghz and not @3.0Ghz 2.83Ghz.

I would go to the Bios, set everything to Default, clear Cmos and start the PC to see if vista then recognize it correctly. If it does, reboot again, get to the Bios and change your set up to how you had it before, sans the 2.83Ghz iffy part ;)

Hey,, I updated my info on the site (my cpu etc...)
here is the exactly story of how it has started:
i had normal system settings (no OC) and when clicked on system properties i could have seen this:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00Ghz 2.83Ghz

Then, i overclocked it to 3.23Ghz and when i click on the system properties i saw:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00Ghz 3.23Ghz

then i got back to original cpu speed (no OC) and when i click on system properties i saw:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00Ghz 2.63Ghz

So, it looked a little bit strange to me and then i tried again to overclock it on bios to 3.23Ghz and after i Overclocked it i opened system properties and i saw:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00Ghz 2.63Ghz

So, i think something is wrong here! because that is was vista is showing my and cpu-z and other programs are showing me the speed i have chosen (3.23Ghz)

i think the stock multi for an 8400 is x9..?? yet cpuz is showing x8.5

have you disable EIST & CIE support in the BIOS..??

i couldn't find EIST but i have found C1E and disabled it...
but i don't think that is the issue, the issue is that it should write to me that it's using 2.67Ghz when i am using 3.2...

yes! you were right! i changed the bios settings instead of x8 and x0.5 to x9 and now it is showing the correct speed at vista! thanks!

vista will only EVER work off the default multi, if you OC your chip you cant use the vista system information b/c its not built for the change...;)
