Pointer freeze

Got a new PC, running 64 bit vista home premium, check my specs. This is so frustrating. I'll turn on PC and get busy on routine, With in 15 mins. the pointer just gets locked. I'll hold the start button down to shut down. Restart and it runs perfect the rest of the day. Any idea what is causing this? Alt/con/del won't work while pointer is froze.

So strange how it only happens once a day. Pleeezzzz help me.

This problem is driving me nutz.. Just spent 1,500.00 on a new tower only and this problem should not happen.

Is the mouse a USB or PS2 mouse? if the former, how many USB ports do you have and are they all in used? Have you tried disconnecting the mouse when this happens and connecting again to see if Vista picks it up again? Have you updated to the latest mouse drivers or are you using the generic ones?

I updated set point to 4.70. and installed the new drivers for vista 64. I'll test it out tomorrow and let you know if that works. I also have a Z-board hooked up to a usb port along with my logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo MX 3000. I have 6 total USB ports. 4 are being used. Printer, Zboard, MX3000, and Saitex X52 Microsoft flight simulator controllers. Didn't try disconnecting it. I've pressed the buttons on both the transmitter/mouse. I just hope I'm not doing damage to my new unit holding the start button down till the PC shuts down. I wait 30 seconds before turning it back on. Just so strange this problem only happens once a day about 15 mins into my morning routine. It's driving me nutz. I think I'll clean the inside of any dust or crud on the fans but it's not that old. Got it in Sept. 2008.

Hello all.

Ok Sir Vortex, have you tried a different mouse? That should have been the first thing you did.

You are using a wireless mouse and keyboard combo using the same receiver correct?
Or separate wireless mouse and keyboard?

Either way, try a new mouse. Use a wireless or wired its your choice. If this works, then its a problem with your mouse. If it doesn't work, try a wired mouse. If that works, then its probably a wireless issue with your setup and you should consider rearranging it.

Let us know what works.

P.S. You are doing a Hard Restart, which will not damage your system. I do it all the time.

Yes using the same reciever. Just have to solve this proplem shy of hiring a geek to transfer his self to my den and wallet.

I'm wondering why a different mouse would make a differance, when it only happens once a day within the first 15 mins of my routine? After the hard shut down it's perfect the rest of the day.

So Far it's been a hour and wala no freeze, hopefully updating the mouse on logitech's support page worked. I'll report again.

Getting the Microsoft Sidewinder X8 Gaming mouse asap per Amazon's pre-order. Hope it works as good as they say it will.

No need, sometimes the answer is simple update to the drivers, other times, is a dreaded cat and mouse game... no pun intented

I would safely say my problem is solved. So far no pointer freeze. Solution was to update My keyboard/mouse combo Logitech MX-3000 laser to vista 64. Thanks Astalavista, for the help and I'm a Happy Camper.

Well to my surprise it's doing it again. Only once a day. Otherwise the PC screams. This is buggin the heck out of me. Got it in Sept. Opened it up used the can of air to give short burst of air, cleaned it up, wasn't bad. But to my surprise when I pulled tower out of cavity the holes for air intake holes were clogged big time (95%) with dust substance. Vaced it off and I'll check it monthly now.

What the heck would cause the PC pointer to freeze only once a day say within the first 20 mins. of my routine??? Then work perfect untill I restart. Check my specs. It's a good PC.

I do have two keyboards hooked up. (see specs)

Bad memory? Bad sector in harddrive?

Could be some crazy error with the mobo connectors.... Does it do that in any other ports?

No idea what a mobo connector is. Come Friday I'm going to pre-order the MicroSoft Sidewinder X8 mouse. Suppose to be the latest and greatest. It looks fantastic.

Also I have Norton 360 protecting my PC. A few people told me it could cause problems. I might deep six it to.

Mobo connector = connectors on the motherboard, in this case, where you plug in the mouse.

Norton could be causing the problem, but that seems unlikely in this case. Let us know how the sidewinder works.
