Can't move folder due to permission issue

Ok, new to this, but here goes....

I have Vista home premium 64-bit; am the only user and administrator.

I moved a folder containing an .exe setup for Hallmark Card Studio and all it's content, from my external hard drive to my hp laptop that it's connected to (onto the desktop), then tried to move that folder from my desktop to another folder on my laptop, called media where I have other print shop programs. It starts the move, then I get the permission window which I click 'continue', then it says permission is needed in another window, and I click 'retry' and it keeps trying and returning to that same window! (Same thing happens when I try to delete folders sometimes also). Don't know what's going on, as this is a new problem I've encountered and can't seem to figue out.

Can anybody help me?:(

Try and take ownership of the files...

Can you transfer the same files to a Flash Drive or CD?

If so, then it is a problem with the way you are connected and trying to move.
If not, then it is a problem with the files themselves.

My Novice experience with MS OS’s is, 98se was good & stable but lacking the neat stuff, ME had the neat stuff but unstable & crashed all the time or restarts were necessary to get it to work, XP was great & now for me Vista acts more like ME & I have to restart to get it things working again.
Have you tried a restart or shutdown? Years ago with XP I had a problem, did a restart & that didn’t help, searched the net for hours to find a fix & got so frustrated that I did a power down figuring to try again the next day. The next day the problem was gone. A power down has fixed at least 4-5 more problems that I had where a restart wouldn’t & I have no idea why. Now if a restart won’t fix the problem I do a power down that takes 10min rather than spinning my wheels searching the net.

I right-clicked on the folder I was trying to move, hit Copy, went to the new folder and right-click/ Paste to deposit it into the new folder. I'll just consider the old one a back-up until I get the guts to delete it. I spent more than an hour looking it up on the internet and trying to learn all of the ins and outs for file sharing without solving the permissions problem. No better informed, I tried the simple and elegant solution which took all of one minute.
