Computer won't POST only reads CPU

Just to clarify, I'm a bit of a newbie at all of this but very interested in learning...so I started playing around.

I just installed a new MB (Biostar MCP6P M2+) and CPU AMD 64 x2 Brisbane 4200+ 2.2ghz. overclocked to 2.8ghz. and installed Vista x64 Premium OS.

I was trying to import some pictures into Picasa from an SD card via a multi card reader on my Canon MP130 printer and the program froze. I shut it down. When I tried to use my multi card reader attached to the MB it wanted to format my disk??? is this because I am using a x64 system?

After a few more attempts my entire system froze. I hard rebooted and when the POST comes up it only shows the CPU info and stops?

any ideas?

Hi Zypperneck and welcome to Vista Forums

Follow the instructions to clear the CMOS:

An alternative method is to remove the battery for approximately 30 seconds.

No luck!

It did finally boot once but just froze up on windows start-up.

I even tried switching out the CPU for kicks...

So is this a hardware issue? MB maybe?

Please check your RAM modules. Are they seated correctly? Are they in the right slots?

My suggestion worked, or you checked the RAM; not sure what you mean?

Sorry, Yes I check the RAM and they seem fine. Every now and agian I can get it to POST but then it freezes on Windows startup. I've tried to start in Safe mode and normal, both fail. If I keep turning the machine on and off, if will sometimes get through POST...not very often only been about 4 times since the problem started and thats how I know it freezes on Windows. Any other ideas...I'm fresh out. The only thing I can think is that it is a hardware issue but then why does it freeze on windows?

Check to see if your CPU fan is hooked up; Other then that it might be a hardware issue - MB, CPU, or RAM.

You can eliminate the RAM by running memtst which can be found here - www.memtest.org
