Can't stop keyboard being able to wake vista

I already posted this in the newsgroup section but felt I may get more joy in here, so I reposted as my original thread falls down the ranks, so, sorry about double posting the thread, but hopefully I can get a response on the forum section.

Anyway, here goes:

My problem is that I can't stop my Keyboard from waking Vista from sleep. I've gone through Device Manager and onto the power management tab for the keyboard and have unticked "Allow this device to wake computer" but it makes no difference, the keyboard still wakes the pc. I've checked the bios and there's no option to stop the keyboard waking the machine there. After unticking the box to stop the keyboard waking vista I ran "powercfg -devicequery wake_programmable" and the keyboard is still shown in the list of devices that can wake the computer.

The keyboard I'm using is an EX110 (Logitech).

I'd really appreciate any help on this.

Thanks.

I would love to help but I don't really understand the problem. How can your KB wakes Vista unless you touch a key? if it does it all on its own, how can the KB knows that vista is already sleep?

See what I mean? I am probably not understanding this very well.

I apologise, I mustn't have explained myself very well. What I mean is, I don't want my keyboard to be able to wake my PC from sleep. I put my computer to sleep and sometimes the computer will wake itself (due to a small problem with a single key). I want to take away the keyboards ability to wake the system. As I said in my original post, I have unticked the box in device manager under the keyboard where it says "Allow this device to wake the computer" but it has made no difference, the keyboard still wakes the system if I press a key.

Basically, I would like some way of taking away the keyboards ability to wake the system from sleep (as the simplest option doesn't seem to work).

Thankyou :D

Ahhh, ok, now I understand better but still have no solution for you as I am also new to Vista. I had the reverse problem last night though, my KB nor my mouse weren't able to wake my pc and I had to use the hard shutdown.

Hopefully though, someone here with more experience will lend a hand soon.

Thanks for the input. I sure hope someone will have a solution.

I may have to head over to logitech (I think they have a forum) and see if anyone there has an answer also.

Thanks.

Hello parasectre, welcome to the forums.

As for your problem, I don't have a solution, but together we can all try to get lucky.

Have you tried another keyboard? I'm not saying as a permanent replacement, just to locate the problem. If another keyboard has the same issue, then Vista is to blame, but if the other KB has no problem, then your KB is to blame. Just simplifies troubleshooting.

So, try the other keyboard (hope you have one. I'm so used to having like 3 in the closet...)

If it is the KB, then we can try and make our way through the setup to fix it.

By Vista Ultimate x86, do you mean the 64bit version? I always get confused when people say that, because x86 is the compatibility mode for x32 programs by a x64 bit system......

Thanks for the welcome Bob.

I've tried your suggestion, this time using a wired USB Dell keyboard and what do you know, after unticking the box under power management to "allow this device to wake the computer" the Wired KB was unable to wake Vista. This leads me to believe, as you pointed out, it could be down to the keyboard rather than Vista.

So, I hope you can help me sort this issue Bob.

Thanks.

Oh, Vista Ultimate x86 = 32-Bit version.

Try updating your KB drivers. If that doesnt work, then....

Dunno. We will see.

Updated the drivers, still no joy.

I'll try it out on my laptop and get back to you, any other suggestions are still welcome though.

Cheers for the help so far Bob.

Hi parasectre, have you ticked mouse to wake up while unticked the keyboard?

By the way, how do you know it is the keyboard that wakes up the pc? May be you can find out by keyboardless.

There has been lots of complains about system has been waking up on its own for different bugs. You may be able to eliminate it by disable everything running and reinable it one by one. It takes forever but may worth it.;)

Hope this helps.

I'm just going off the fact that if I press a key on the keyboard, it will wake the PC, even though it's been disabled from doing so.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the Wireless USB receiver having the one USB "plug" which works for both Mouse and Keyboard but if I untick the box for "allow this device to wake the computer" for both the keyboard and mouse neither will wake the PC, however, if I leave the box ticked iunder the mouse but unticked under KB then the Keyboard can still wake the PC.

After unticking both boxes for both KB and Mouse niether will wake the PC (as far as I can see from a few tests). This therefore seems to have done the trick for me.

I'll post back if anything else comes up but I think it may have been sussed *fingers crossed*

Thanks for the help (so far).
