Hi,
when i start up vista, just after login i see A very heavy Disc read/Write operation. On opening the resource monitor through task manager i see some services reading my personel files. I fail to understand this. The figures are something like this:

Image->svchost.exe(local systemNetworkRestricted)
PID->1004
File->G:\Documents\Books\Comics\Asterix1.pdf
Read(BytesPerMin)->32,741,904
Write->0
IOPriority->Backgroud

And many similar lines showing services reading my personel files.Can some one please explain this.

I have no answer, it could be normal. What you can do is to try to identify what is behind all this activity. One way is to download and install Process Explorer. It gives you a fairly good overview. Anything suspiscious in Defenders Software Explorer (on Defenders Tools Menu)? Have you run any particular antivirus program?

That seems to me like it could be a virus. Svchost is a notorious process known to have 4-8 running on a PC at a time, with some possibly being a virus. Run some scans to check that out.

Do you know what that particular file is? If not, it could indeed be a virus. If it is something you put on there, then maybe not, but if it was downloaded, then it could be a problem.

It also appears to be all reading and no writing, so it could be instructions there.

Definitely run virus scans though.
