Purchase or get copy of replacement CD

I need to get a copy of a replacement CD (or DVD whichever it is) for Windows Vista Business. It is a legitimate copy on my computer but I cannot find the CD. I have looked on Microsoft's web site to try to find a contact number. Does anyone know the correct department or phone number or any other contact information so that I can purchase a replacement disk?

This is not pre-installed software and so I cannot contact the computer's manufacturer. It was purchased separately for a MacBook. I need the CD in order for me to start using the program Parallels. It checks to be sure that Mac OS X is legitimate and that Windows is legitimate before installing Parallels. The MacBook came with Mac installed on it and the Windows Vista Business was purchased separately and installed.

Thank you,
Linda

Hello Linda, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You can order a replacement CD/DVD from Microsoft from the link below for just S&H.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/1033/ordermedia/default.mspx

If you have a friend that has Vista Business to, then you can copy their DVD to use with your product key number also.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks Shawn. I followed your link and tried to purchase. I get the error.

I do have the product key number to enter into the form when it asks for it on the page that you linked to so that was not the problem.

Maybe because that page says "Congratulations on upgrading to Windows Vista." and it was not an upgrade.

Hi anmldr,

Do you know someone who has M$ Vista installation dvd, i.e. the regular dvd you buy (not a manufacturer supplied recovery disc) ?

You can use that with your product key, as Shawn says. All the installation dvd's contain all the Editions, so just the Business Edition will install if you put in the Business product key.

Hope it helps

I wish that I did. I will check around. But, I truly don't mind purchasing a replacement CD/DVD. I would actually feel safer with that in case anything ever happens to this computer and I have to re-install. Then I would not have to wait several days for the CD to arrive.

Hi Linda,

As far as I know (apart from the online replacement that M$ offers ), you can't buy a replacement dvd on it's own.

You need to buy it with a license - i.e. pay for it again.

As it appears you cannot get the one from M$, you have to borrow one.

It takes a few minutes to make your own copy - it's perfectly OK - after all, it can only be used with a valid key.

Hope that helps

Edit - did you try this page? Looks like the right one - have heard of people needing to enter key a few times to get it to work .

It could also be you don't have the full Retail packaged product - your dvd may be a System builder dvd - that would get the same messgae - it did when I tried it with mine.

Hello Hammerdown,

What type of Vista do you have?

For example, retail (Full or Upgrade), OEM, Anytime Upgrade, etc....

I have pre-installed Vista Business 32 sp1 OEM on a laptop, which I know now is probably why my product key results in the error.

Yeah, with a OEM (ex: Sony), you will need to have it installed on the same somputer that it was originally installed on, and will have to contact them instead to get it activated if it will not activate online.
