Vista 64 lagging, freezing up on simple folder open

Whenever I press Start button, open a folder, right click to open properties, anything that accesses folders, it lags out. Example: I open up a small folder on Desktop, it opens the folder window, and I see the green loading bar (at the address bar) and the hourglass cursor (Vista's blue circle) for 5-30 seconds at time, as if I was loading a very very very big program.

My system was built with Multitasking in mind. I could run several heavy graphic games and graphic do not even slow down. I could open 10 browsers in the background. And with all those, my CPU usage did not exceed 45%.

And the lag/freeze problem happens about 80% of the time, when the computer is under no stress, CPU usage at 2%, with hardly anything else running. This is bothering me a lot, I have spent hours looking for the cause of these. Event Viewer did not offer anything interesting indicating any problem.

Would the SSD OS drive or the RAID0 affect this by any chance? I am using hardware RAID onboard the ASUS motherboard, not Microsoft software RAID.

Any help appreciated.

System spec:
- Intel Quadcore 9450
- ASUS P5Q Deluxe
- 4Gb DDR2 RAM
- Powercolor ATI Radeon 4850 HD chipset 512Mb RAM
- OS drive: Patriot SSD 32Gb SATAII
- 2x 500Gb HDD in RAID0
- 1x 500Gb HDD for normal storage

Note: Pagefile is on a separate partition on RAID0 to maximize read/write speed. All temp folders are moved to other drives to avoid SSD's slow write speed, including browsers' temp, Vista's Temp, and My Documents are on other drives.
