Vista becomes invisible in dual boot order change to XP as default

Hi!
I had Vista on C: drive and later installed XP on D: drive.
Boot order was then Vista - XP, worked ok. I then changed the boot order where XP to be the default . And now the boot manager does not allow me to even choose Vista, but goes directly to XP. The changes I did in Vista.
I have "restorepoint delete" fix active ( System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete)
Restoring the fix does no difference to this issue other than making boot.ini visible for changes on the XP side, but without options for Vista.

Has my Vista gone "hasta la vista" or is it "see you never more". Is there some means of getting it alive again?

Lars

Hello Lars,

You should be able to do a Startup Repair on the Vista partition to have it back.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

UPDATE:

See this to Boot Partition - Default

@Larvald if Brink's suggestion doesn't work you may be able to fix it up using VistaBootPro. Used to be free but I think they ask $9 for it now. Anyway, when I added XP to a Vista machine one of the steps after installing XP was getting Vista boot menu back by using VistaBootPro in XP. Either way should work.

Thank's Shawn!
But the Startup Repair didnot make any difference.
I'll try VistaBootPro.

Re: Vista becomes invisible in dual boot order change to XP as default

Hi MilesAhead!
VistaBootPro (7,95€) did help me out.
I figured out how I ended up in this situation. I painted myself in the corner by setting the time, being impatient waiting, to show list of operating systems at statup to zero, thus going staight into the default. Or then it was that "someone" or something having done that.

Strange why the startup recovery didn't return the default value of 30 secs.

Thank's guys for your help.

Re: Vista becomes invisible in dual boot order change to XP as default

@Larvald yeah those bootup options are often nebulous. I dual boot Vista and XP so I thought if I set XP to "default" it would be the one chosen in the menu if I let it time out. Nope. No menu. Just boots XP. Go figure.
