Help reinstalling

I am using beta windows 7 to be online I think I screwed up badly today:

I installed 7 earlier and when I rebooted to go back to vista it said recovery partition not found, so I decided to log back into windows 7 and it was corrupt so I was like no big deal I will use recovery discs to log back in, nope it didn't work. I started this at 11am this morning 9 hours ago and I am back online but using windows 7. Vista kept getting stuck at not being able to find recovery partition and wouldn't get past it.
I am using the recovery discs I create on my HP m9350f and I am stuck.

Now my question is if I have an OEM version of Home Premium 64 bit can I reinstall vista when this beta expires?
Can I install it as a dual boot with 7 being installed first and not loose anything when beta expires?

Hi,

If you have oem preinstalled Vista with "recovery" discs and partition - you should be able to restore that image they contain to put your machine back to factory condition.

Please post a jpeg screenshot of Disk Management.

Cick Start>right click Computer>click Manage>double click Disk Management.

To post jpeg screenshot, click the Go Advanced button at the foot of this threadpage and follow step 8 onward of this tutorial

Hope it helps

I may be mistaken, but it's been my understanding that if you installed SP1 AFTER your original install of Vista, you would have to uninstall SP1 first for your boot disks to work.
My system came preinstalled with home premium 64 bit if that matters, it was purchased November 2008

I wouldn't think so, but I also have not done it.

As to the problem, you can indeed reinstall it with the OEM disk.

Hi Home,

If he uses a bootable recovery disc , it should overwrite anything that is on the drive and restore an image so it will be as it was the day he got it. Any updates , including SP1 will be gone of course.

I think you may be thinking of the repair install , where you run the upgrade install from inside windows- without booting.

He wouldn't be able to do that in any case as he has a recovery image disc, not an installation disc.

If there is a problem restoring the image, it may be because there has been some corruption to the partition table/volume boot record of the recovery partition , which the recovery disc needs to detect.

That problem should not arise with an installation dvd.

Hi ct,

If you use an installation ( as opposed to a recovery ) dvd - you may find you need specific drivers from HP - worth visiting their site to d/l drivers for your machine first.

If you use the key stickered on the machine - you may find you need to ring HP to activate - not necessarily, but is often the case with oem preinstalls.

Most of my stuff works with preinstalled Vista drivers... I almost never need to install a driver....(?) I do though...

Hi Lordbob,

Yes Vista includes a pretty good selection of drivers - but in my case and many others, I need the specific ethernet driver, or I can't get online.

Best to get them all on a cd first, just in case.

True. I know my mouse worked w/o driver, but I need to install the driver to get some of the advanced features (same w/ keyboard) It is always good to get the drivers in there anyways. Hopefully, W7 will do an even better job with though.

Well it seems to be working with the recovery discs, however remember I did have windows 7 installed and am sure this will overwrite it. Doesn't matter to me if it does. I liked it but not enough to not have OEM

Thanks for the clarification SIW2. I mentioned this only because I remembered there were times in which you can use a bootable, and there were times that you could.nt use one.
