OLE32.DLL keeps causing Vista HP SP1 crashes

Any help someone could provide on an issue with Vista HP would be very appreciated.

Keep getting APPCRASHES from all sorts of applications, ranging from Skype, to IE 7 and Microsoft Money. After watching these crashes for months, and using Process Explorer, it seems the common thread of the crashes is that OLE32.DLL is pointed to each time. At the suggestion of an earlier post, ran sfc /scannow, but it didn't find a problem with any system files.

Further research at this forum and here (http://support.microsoft.com/gp/pc_i...leshooting1000) discusses trying the REGSRV32 OLE32.DLL command.

Tempted to try this, but before typing in unfamiliar commands, wondering if anyone knows:
1. Is there a risk of running this command?
2. Is there a chance this might actually solve the issue?

Thanks!

OK. Taking a deep breath, I opened an elevated command prompt and entered regsvr32 ole32.dll. Vista reported back that the command was successful. Rebooted - and everything seemingly started up fine.

Now, guess we'll see if the ole32.dll errors stop... Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just in case someone encounters this same issue in the future, after months of troubleshooting ... found the issue: Intuit's Quicken.

After uninstalling or not using every app on the system one-by-one, after not using Quicken (fullly patched 2008 version), the OLE32.DLL Appcrashs with IE7 are gone. My system hasn't crashed in 12 days and the System Stability Chart number has risen to 8.96 (from 6.64 when I was using Quicken).

Not sure why Quicken causes IE7 to crash. Does anyone have a theory? I'd be curious to know.

Could possibly be a registry error or bug in the system. Have you ran any spyware programs, defrag hard drive and ran a registry cleaner. Try that and see what happens. I know that HP has a Pinter issue which causes office 2007 to crash, there working on a fix. For me it crashes my word 2007 when printer is off and I'm using the program, if I have printer on it doesn't crash the app. Go figure.
