Importing Photos Problem - Windows Vista

I have a all in 1 card reader and it has worked flawlessly for over two years on a XP computer. I recently got a new computer with Vista and every time I try to import my photos I get many warnings that some of the photos can't be imported due to errors. In the dialog box that lets you watch the progress of your photos being imported the photos that are OK have little thumbnails and the photos that have errors appear as tropical landscape animations or something.

Any idea why I'm losing so many photos? At first I thought it was the card - I formatted it and tried again to no avail. I switched cards and the same thing happened.

Why?

Hello Justin, welcome.

Most likely it is the card reader that is incompatible with your system. Check the manufacturer to see if it works with vista. If it does, then download the latest drivers.

Thanks, Lordbob. I guess I'll just buy a new one. I can't afford to keep losing photos to some phantom error.

Cheers again.

Hi bob, I just had to ask you since you know about the card readers. My dell came with the 19-1 card reader. everytime that I insert one of my compact flash card in the read I get an error. Staying it not a valid reader, then all the drives disappear when I look in "my computer"...IE.. CF drive f, SD drive G, etc all gone. Something I have to restart my computer and that might bring them back... any cue to this. tk

LOL I don't know all that much about them.

Anyways, the computer came with both the card reader and Vista correct? If so, then they are most likely compatible (not 100% chance though) The first thing to do is to check to make sure all the drivers are updated and Vista compatible (x64 if you use it). If they are, then maybe check the connection inside your computer. It could also be a bad drive.

Yes Bob, the 19-1 card reader came with the computer. Slide open the front and there they are. about four slots. They show as drive F, G, H, and I. removeable dish. When I get the error, I check on my computer and F thru I are gone.
I slide my compact Flash card but nothing happens. I don't know where to get the drivers from them. I will call Dell and see what they say.
tks

Let us know if you can get them. If you know the model of the card reader, you can simply look them up online.
