My sister-in-law has forgotten her login password. Just get the vista welcome page and the login prompt. her laptop came preloaded with vista. She has no CD's or other backup. Is she stuffed?

Did you create a copy of the password on a flash drive? It is possible that the computer reset it, try "password" as the password (without quotes).

The short answer to your question is that there are things that can be done to get around this problem. However due to the nature of this problem and the posibility, and I make no accusations here, that this may be an attempt to gain access to a computer without the owners agreement, I am limited on an open forum to what I can advise.
I will say that a google search for something like " Forgot your Windows NT/2k/XP/Vista admin password " would provide at least one link to a site that you would find useful.
