Hello everyone,

Few days got i got virus from someones flash drive. although myvirus scan was able to remove it, from that day my CD's, flash drive, external HDD's have stopped to show me autorun info.

I have scanned my computer with may times, no virus found. i have resetted autoplay option from control pannel.

Is there anything else i have to check? possibly with registry????

Please help me...

To turn auto info on or off go to control your control pane.

control panel/ hardware and sound/ Auto play

Once your there check the box at the top left, this will use auto run for all media and devices. Next scroll all the way down the page. Click the reset tab/button, at bottom left of page. This will reset everything to its default settings, which when you insert a cd/dvd, sd card of some type, the auto featrue will pop up asking you to choose from the list what you want to do next. Of you can manually change each media and device to open with what ever is in the drop down menu for each item. I personally use the default settings. Good luck.

Flavious,

I navigated to Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Choose “Auto play Policies” and in that i saw three options
1 - turn off autoplay, i selected -disabled, it was on not coonfigured before,
2 - Don't set the always do this check box, i selected enabled, it was on not coonfigured before,
3 - Default behavior for autorun, i selected enabled, it was on not coonfigured before.

this had no effect on the autorun after a complete reboot.

I saw simillar settings for User Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Auto play Policies.

thinking these are same / simillar settings, i have set them exactly as above.
But after a reboot still no success..

i think we are getting there, just missing a final push.....

Thanks as always,

Geo

Yes. Don't worry -I know it could be so much many subkeys

My Computer

Find this key

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2

and remove all subkeys in this key.

Flavious,

I have deleted all those subkeys in the registry as stated above. but it had no effect on the autorun.....

just to add more.. my roxio cd creater which was working fine till few days back.. before deleting these sub keys i found the program doesnot work:cry:

is it also related to it???????

These subkeys only stores history last used DVD,pendrives and autorun info how to quickly open them,If subkeys are removed and you use again DVD system rebuild quickly info about used device -it is not related to trouble with burning program

And system burner work fine?Uninstall exactly Roxio and, check results - if Roxio isn't related to your main problen you can install it again

Check you have service Shell Hardware Detection is started and set to AUTO

In regedit this service is under ShellHWDetection but you don't need check it directly in registry

Start>>Search>>services.msc find Shell Hardware Detection and click on it to view properties (image below)

My Computer

Flavious,

I just opened services.msc and looked under Shell Hardware Detection. It is just the same as you have shown in the picture.....

1.Navigate to key

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CdRom

and check you have phrase Autorun is set to 1 ->if you have 0 fix it + restart

2.Navigate to key

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

and check you have in this key phrases UpperFilter and LowerFilters ->if you find these phrases remove them + restart

3.Use Clean Handlers ->Removing unwanted AutoPlay Handlers in Windows XP and Windows Vista
4.Try also update driver for DVD - may you have it in Windows Update - check it

...and really no more ideas :(

My Computer

Flavious,

well i checked the registry for both .

1. CdRom is set for 1,

2. Removed the entries for upperfilter and lower filters. rebooted computer....but unfortunatly it is still not autorunning any USB or cd..

very sad indeed..

may be after when i go home i will restore my entrire computer..

that will definatly solve the problem...

Having said so, i would like to thank you once again for taking your time out to looks for the solutions for my computer.

Best regards,

You shouldn't do that if you ever time computer has been infected.Even more disable at the moment system restore and enable again

You can try also command sfc /scannow (in cmd.exe runned with administrative previlliges)but there is very little chance it help you :(

Try Repair Install without loosing programs and data -(this way you'll have more chances) http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html

My Computer

after choosing enable,
you have select "all drives" in the drop down box just below then click apply... because it is applicable for only cd drives as default...
