"always hide" tray icon

I've run across a couple of applications (Avira Premium Security Suite, Spyware Terminator) that, despite choosing the "Always Hide" option for their tray icon, every time the computer reboots, they default back to "Hide When Inactive."

Sure, it's a minor issue to set them back to "Always Hide" when I reboot, but is there some sort of tweak somewhere that will force these applications to remember the "Always Hide" setting, instead of defaulting back to "Hide When Inactive?"

Thanks!

Re: "always hide" tray icon

Hello Zoloft,

Check to see if there is a option in the program's settings to turn off either the tray, system, or notification area icon for that program.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: "always hide" tray icon

Thanks for the fast reply.

I WANT the icon there, I like the easy access, I just like it to be hidden until I do use it. At least in Avira, you can disable the icon entirely (not sure about ST), but I don't want that option, I just want it to stay hidden behind that little left facing arrow until I am ready for it!

A very minor issue I know, but, I am a bit on the OCD side, I chose my alias appropriately

Re: "always hide" tray icon

Well, normally the Hide When Inactive would work, but since these types of programs are usually always active, it will never stay hidden (at least not for long).

Re: "always hide" tray icon

I just have all mine to show all icons, because I hate that arrow and I use them enough. But thats a personal choice. With an active program like that, I agree with Brink, it will always pop in and out.

Re: "always hide" tray icon

With the always hide options (though, I guess now it's just "hide") it DOESN'T pop up, and it works properly on other applications. And, until I reboot, it never does, regardless of activity. My only "issue" is, that after reboot, it forgets that it should be set to "hide" and reverts to "hide when inactive."

Re: "always hide" tray icon

I believe that this will be a issue of the program being a security type program and it reasserting itself in the tray icon since it would usually load at the startup of all user accounts that were created instead of just yours. I do not know of any way around this unless the program had a setting of it's own for this to turn off or disable for the tray icon or to allow other users usage access or not.

Re: "always hide" tray icon

I agree with Brink. Unless there is a setting in the program itself, I think it will overwrite the Vista instruction.

Re: "always hide" tray icon

Ah, ok, gotcha. I guess it is simple enough to just change the setting back to always hide when I reboot, if that's the way it must be. Thanks for your time and input!

You're welcome Zoloft. Wish there was an easier way that we knew of.
