This is weird and different. I'm wanting to put my computer in hibernate and I click on the start menue but the option is no longer there. I have the option to sleep, shut down, lock and so on but no longer have hibernate. Whats up with that ? Does anyone have a clue ?
Thanks in advance for your response. Melty

Isn't the first button the hibernate one, you click on the start orb and alongside the search box are the 3 buttons, the first will put the computer into memory in a low power state so you can resume quickly, then you have the lock button then the button with the arrow which brings out the menu for switch user, log off, lock, restart, sleep and shut down.

Are you saying you don't have the first one, have you tried typing in hibernate into the search box ?

Laptops dont use hybrid sleep by default, and this is not a recognized command: cfg power -h on Did you mean powercfg -h on?

You may have deleted the Hybernation files when doing a disk cleanup, re-enable it. Here is how:
Start>in Search type cmd> right click the program and "run as administrator">Click "continue">Copy/paste this command, and hit enter

powercfg /hibernate on

Or click the "fix it" button here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929658

Click your battery icon>Click "more Power Options"> Ckick "change Plan settings"for the plan(s) you are using>Click "change advanced power settings">Cick "power buttons and lid"> Click "Start menu power button" to change that>

NOTE- Click "multimedia Settings" If Plugged in setting is " set for "away mode" or "prevent idling" System will not enter sleep/Hybernation mode. Set it to"Allow".

Further note- Vista SP1 Caused a glitch in Hybernation, When you wake a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) from hibernation, you may receive the following error message:
"System was shutdown unexpectedly"

This may or may not have been resolved with subsequent updates (I applied the fix shortly after SP1), If you encounter this error, here is the fix:Error message when a computer that is running Windows Vista SP1 resumes from hibernation: "System was shutdown unexpectedly"

Hi,

One more possibility to check

Depending on the bios, on the motherboard, the separate hibernate feature may not be available if the hybrid sleep mode is enabled. this may be disabled in the advanced power options for the selected power plan
