"Windows Explorer has stopped responding."

I get this message all the time, usually when I'm doing something simple like selecting a folder or a file in Explorer. The system freezes, then I get this message with the option to restart Explorer. This started happening after I did a format and clean reinstall. I tried CHKDSK to no avail. Any other ideas?

Here are my system details:

Re: "Windows Explorer has stopped responding."

Try opening cmd and running the command sfc /scannow.

Also if you could go into event viewer and post us a log of the event this would prove useful.

Re: "Windows Explorer has stopped responding."

I have a feeling it due to a shell extension installed by an application. Hate to pester you with info but if you could post a Hijack This log I could look at all of the extensions.

Re: "Windows Explorer has stopped responding."

It looks like roboform or Actobat may be causing it. The best way to diagnose this is to go to msconfig disable all startup programs and play with everything in Explorer and see if it crashes. IF it doesn't that means it's software related.

Re: "Windows Explorer has stopped responding."

HI wayne87,

Is it happening when you browse particular folder ?

Explorer may crash if there is a problem in creating thumbnails for Picture, Video and etc...

As TheWiz mentioned it could be due to startup program. Check in safe mode.

Good luck.

Re: "Windows Explorer has stopped responding."

I have a suggestion for problems with "internet explorer has stopped responding".I would recommend to anyone having this problem to ditch internet explorer and download mozilla firefox.I was using internet explorer and began having problems where it would freeze and lock my system about 4 or 5 times an hour.I tried to figure out how to correct this and couldnt. After much frustration I decide to try mozilla firefox. It was only like 3 mb to download.I love this browser. It is faster than internet explorer and I have been using it for three days now and have not had one problem with it.Sorry but,bye internet explorer. As for mozilla firefox,I love this browser,LOVE IT !
