Windows Hibernate sleep wake up problem

System spec is below.

The problem.

I pressed the circle button with the vertical lline in Vista (from pressing Start) This sent the computer to sleep or hibanate I dont know which. I cannot get the computer to come back on. The monitor remains black (no picture) and says no signal.

I have deprived the computer of power. This was achieved by unplugging it from the wall, and removing the power cable also from the computer.

I have tried restarting the computer but to no avail. I have also removed the keyboard and mouse when I try starting up. I have also tried, holding in the power button and then restarting.

No matter what I try still no joy. No signal on the monitor. The lights in all cases come on, on the base unit and I can hear fans spinning etc.

I have read about this issue in round about ways but all of the fixes seem to rely on actually being in windows.

I'm at my wits end please help !
Thanks

Re: Windows Hibanate/sleep wake up problem

I would remove your video card and then replace it back it. Then I would watch it start up and see if anything wired goes on inside your case. If not and all looks good but there is still no monitor signal I would check to see if it is set to the right signal, the newer monitors have DVI VGA etc and you must properly select it.

If none of this helps I will look into it further.

In your specs you also say that you are using ati radeon 4870x2, a dvi card, but then you say under DVI cable "none"

Re: Windows Hibanate/sleep wake up problem

Hi Yossii,

welcome to the forum. Is it USB Keyboard & Mouse or Wireless ?

Change power plan:
Click start > type "Power Options" > Open and Change it to "high Performance" and check.

Device manager settings:
Click start > type > "device manager" and Enter > right click on Mouse, Keyboard and "USB Root Hub" and click on properties > Go to "Power Management" tab > Make a check mark on "allow this device to wake the computer".

Re: Windows Hibanate/sleep wake up problem

No matter what I try still no joy. No signal on the monitor. The lights in all cases come on, on the base unit and I can hear fans spinning etc.

Sounds like everything is working except Video. Couple things to try:

1: if you have a floppy port, insert some non-bootable floopy disk. If A is set to boot first in bios, but it's not a bootable disk, it usually sends you to Setup.

2: can you access the bios? On some asus boards, it's tapping Est, or Del, but on mine, it's F2

3: most asus boards have a VGA port. Can you connect that outet port instead of the Radeon PCI?

Re: Windows Hibanate/sleep wake up problem

Can't access BIOS and cant get into windows. Also there is no VGA port !
Taking it in to some techie friends of mine in an hour and will try various things, i dont like taking the lid off so to speak.
Fingers crossed i'll let you know what happened !
Thanks

I mentioned trying the mobo VGA port because your spec above notes it:

Fliped out the memory and then the CMOS battery, restarted POSTed like crazy, popped that battery back in and the memory back in turned it on and bingo !
All sorted :D
