Sleep/Keyboard problem

Bergmoser

After resuming from sleep mode the keyboard is inoperative [Dead].
To activate it is necessary to either "Restart" or click on "Switch User" Then all is fine.

Hi Bergmoser,

Do you have SP1 installed on your computer?

it could be due to "fast resume"......Try THIS fix to disable Fast-Resume (still you can use sleep option).

Is it USB Keyboard?

Let Me Know.

Hibernate works just fine. The only thing I don't like is to have to reach in an out of the way place in order to push the power button on the tower. With sleep all that is necessary to wake it up is to touch any key on the keyboard. This is strange, the keyboard wakes the PC,however it is inoperative for typing.

Hi Bergmoser,

You can use the advanced power options (via control panel ) to set what the various buttons do so you should be able to set a button within reach to hibernate :D

Yes it is possible to put the PC in hibernate or sleep using the start button, however to get it out of hibernate it is still necessary to push the tower power button.

Hi,

I have a sleep button on my keyboard and as long as the keyboard is set as enabled to wake the computer from sleep, pressing this will wake the computer from all but a full power down - it may depend on the actual keyboard though

Yes I also have a sleep button on the keyboard, when pressed the computer shuts down and then immedately starts up again. I think at one time in the past it did function as a sleep button or maybe also to hibernate.
Would like to know how to program that button.

There are various options but I set the one on the "Choose what the power buttons do" link screen.

Of course you may have to also check any control panel that comes with the keyboard

All I can say is that they do on my keyboard, If iI press and hold the sleep button, for a second or so, when in hibernation mode the PC wakes up.

There is an option in the device manager to "Allow this device to wake the computer" which I have set on, that may make the difference, this is also available for Mice and network Adaptors

Yes in device manager there is an option to allow the mouse to wake the computer, however that option is not available for the keyboard.

I do have the mouse set to awaken the computer, but there again when I move the mouse nothing happens. It becomes necessary to touch a key to wake it from sleep or push the power button on the tower to wake it from hibernate.

Hi,

It looks like that particular option must be device specific - I have had it on the last two or three keyboards, under the HID device, but I noticed it's not available on the standard keyboard entry.

That may be the answer, however I did try three different keyboards. Was in contact with HP support people for a few hours and they could not figure it out either. So it appears as though I will just have to live with it. My other computer which has XP on it has no problems.

Hi Kernel,Ok I found 5 USB root hubs all of them do not have the option " Allow this device to wake the computer " The only option is " Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power " and it is not ticked (Selected).

Back again Kernel, neglected to mention in the previous reply that I do not have any trouble turning on (sleep) or
(hibernate) also to wake up (sleep) it is only necessary to push any key on the keyboard and to come out of (hibernate)it is necessary to hit the power button on the tower. It is very strange that I can wake the computer using the keyboard, however it is not possible to type until I activate it by selecting (Switch User) in the start menu.

What keyboard do you have? Are the drivers updated for it?

Here's my keyboard & mouse - Both by Logitech, both wireless. You can see I have the option to "Allow this device to wake the computer" boxes checked.

Try finding and updating your keyboard's drivers/software. That might fix the problem.

I have a similar problem. When I hit the (USB) keyboard the system wakes but my USB mouse doesn't move and once it's awake, the keyboard doesn't function.
Have to reset the system (reboot) to use the pc
