Upgrading Graphics Card in Dell Inspiron 530

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 with a Dell 0FM586 motherboard, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz, 3MB memory. I'm currently using the integrated graphics, but I'd like to upgrade to the Nvidia XFX GeForce 9600 GSO video card. So, I have two questions:
  1. I will also have to replace my existing 350-watt power supply. Can you recommend a reliable, affordable power supply in the 550-watt range? (I already bought the Rocketfish RF-550WPS. Will it be sufficient?)
  2. Has anyone had any experience with this setup (a Dell Inspiron 530 with an Nvidia XFX GeForce 9600 GSO video card)? They are compatible, correct?
I used to build my own computers, but it's been a while and technology has come a long way since then. I don't even know what Nvidia's SLI technology is, so I'm assuming that this is not an issue here....

Any light that anyone can shed on my concerns would be most greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help! :)

Hi DMMoulton, welcome to the board.

As long as your board has a PCI exp 16 slot it will support the GPU. 550w PSU is quite sufficient for one 9600. Don't know much about if Rocketfish is a reliable brand though.

Computer now and then is basically the same in principle.

Enjoy,

Bruce

I just finished installing the Rocketfish PSU. The GPU should be coming this week, so we'll see what happens.

Does anyone else use the 9600 without SLI? How do you like it?
