Solved Error with registry editor

I was having problems with my laptop recognizing the cd-rom drive. I tried to delete the registry keys, but I got this error when searching for the registry editor:

Cannot import it: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error.

Does that mean the registry editor is gone? How do I fix this? All the advice I have found on other forums, including on microsoft's help site is for other windows os -- not for vista.

I got my Registry Editor back, deleted the Upper Filters (there were no Lower Filters) and now my laptop recognizes the cd-rom drive.

BUT, I get this error...
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

Now what?

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Try both methods:
1.Try to do this thing what you want in safe mode
2.Turn off UAC + restart and next to do what you want and again turn on UAC + restart
