SLIPSTREAM Tutorial A pain in the neck!

I use Home Premium x64

After careful considerstion and the promise that It takes 3 hours to pop out a nice new slipstreamed copy of windows SP1, I thought i'd take on the challenge. Ooops! Little did i know that when you read the tutorial it turns out, that you may have a few problems along the way. Also I shoul have understood what I was trying to do before I started, which I admit I didn't! But, I thought as long as you follow the instructions you can't go wrong!Ooops'2'. Being a dullard you can't go wrong with the instructions can you!
But, I got all the way to section 15 to find out that i had to do the process all over again. So, I did!

Then i was wondering why it used up 4Gb of memory whilst processing. Me thinks Ohh no not a worm again. After spending 60+ hours getting rid of a worm and wipeing all my hard drives and giving my computer a clean bill of health on Monday last week, I find I have another worm so says Kaspersky.
This time I've only downloaded from Microsoft and the company called vLite to create my Slipstream Windows disk. So, the worm comes from either Windows or vLite.
vLite me thinks?

But that is not the problem when i tried to make my Slipstream DVD again i could not make the the ISO any smaller. So i decided to make an ISO image of 4.6GB to a folder to which it would not even work.

24Hours later since starting said project I would like to see some changes made to the original tutorial. Trying to understand how to implement it from two different sources seems to make the whole issue a pain in the neck...

Needless to say it hasn't worked for me...

For someone who hasn't done a Vista slipstream, I did do an SP one once. I assume you got the instructions from the tutorial on this site?

What worm do you have, and are you sure you got rid of it the first time? Do you have any other computers networked that might also have it? I suppose I might as well ask where you got your vLite? Did you use WINRAR for anything?

The process probably takes as much memory as it can to save time. The process has to go through and compare files to see which one needs to go on the slipstream. It takes a lot of processing power, hard drive usage and probably memory as you have noted.

Did it work?

Hi Trax,

Not surprised you are frustrated.

Clearly it shouldn't be using 4gb of memory - there is something not right about your machine - likely to be the cause of the difficulty you are having with the Slipstream.

If you have had a worm twice, it is very unlikely you would have two different worms in such a short space of time.

Seems more likely it may have been in something you saved, then reapplied to your system after reinstalling.

I would d/l, install, update and scan with these free apps. and see what they come up with

Malwarebytes.org

SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads

download MSRT at the bottom of this page

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool helps remove specific, prevalent malicious software from computers that are running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

You may get more response if you re-title your post to Worm Infection

Hope it helps

Guys calm down! I'm not concerned about the worm as i can see it. Last week when i had the other worm i could not find it which was devastating to my computer as it had to be formated 5 times to get rid of it.
See :~ http://www.vistax64.com/system-security/209046-help-norton-kaspersky-cant-find-virus-worm.html

The problem i am concerned with is that the tutorial is broken into two sections and slightly fragmented, so that i was put in the position of having to try 3 times.

There were no worms or tojans or viruses on my computer prior to downloading vLite. That is the second problem.

Running Malicious tool now.
The worm is riskware P2P generic contained in APPDATA/LOCAL/APP/2.0.
It is quarantined by Kaspersky but, to do Slipstream you have to switch off your antivirus, which means i'm letting the cat out of the bag so to speak.

Hi Trax,

Guys calm down!
Huh?

Might be better to remove the worm rather than quarantine it - can Kaspersky not do that?

It's not impossible your vlite download was infected on the way to you, but it's quite a coincidence.

Curious to know what the other anti - malware apps. make of it.

Hope it works out for you

Kaspersky does not remove anything just detects it and if it thinks of it, it might Quarantine it...

Superantispyware didn't detect it.

I've just decided to try out NOD 32 see what happens then!:)

When i removed Kaspersky it remove the Worm as well. NOD 32 was interesting! Decided to leave it on the computer for a while!
