need help to change a drive icon in my computer

When I open up my computer one of the drive letters (E in the right pane has a 3DHA (3D Home Architect) icon in place of what should be a regular drive icon. I guess when I was test installing 3DHA, it somehow messed up that drive icon, though I have no idea why, but their web site offers no help. I've since removed the software but nothing I've tried will allow me to change the icon back to a regular drive icon. I prefer not to download a 3rd party program unless I have to. I've come across a few sites that offered some tips but everthing I've tried only changes the icon in the left pane. In fact the properties for the drive letter in the right pane don't even have a change icon button, anywhere.

Can anyone suggest what else I might try?

Hi marklyn and welcome to Vista Forums

Have a look at the following Tutorial: Drive Icon Change In particular, check the advice given in the Tip box near the beginning.

The information contained in the tip is exactly what I found at other vista tip sites but, again, this changes the icon in the left side of the pane. On the right side of the pane, there isn't even a 'change icon' button under the properties for that drive.

Actually the information contained in that tip is exactly what I found when I was searching for a solution; however, this does work for the drive icons on the left pane of the "My Computer" folder but the drive icons' on the right pane don't seem to have a 'change icon' button in their drive properties.

Hello Marklyn,

Check out the TIP box at the top of that tutorial link to see if a autorun.inf file is the issue with this icon.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Sometimes the autorun.inf will be a hidden file.

The methods in the tutorial should change the icons for that drive everywhere in Vista. Double check to make sure that the icon you are using a 256x256 icon designed for use with Vista that includes the smaller and larger icon sizes in the icon file.

I've checked the option to show hidden files so the file isn't there.
