Solved exe.part ??

Hi,

Twice now, I have downloaded iTunes, version 8 I believe, and I see the progress line go all the way across in the Downloads window and the installer appears on my Desktop as iTunesSetup.exe.part. It won't open and when I look at Properties, under General Tab it shows as having 0 bytes and in the Details tab, it shows as having 1.55 mb.

How do I get this app to download in full? Thanks!

.part is a suffix added to a filename by firefox's default download manager, the fact that it's all you see means firefox isn't properly compiling the file after the download completes.

While I'm pretty sure that's why, I don't know what the fix might be. If you have downloaded other large-ish files with Firefox before without issue then I would suggest just using IE to download the file. If Firefox won't compile anything I'd either update or reinstall the browser software.

MadDog,

Thanks very much. IE downloaded it just fine.

Excuse me, but do you know why my iPod shuffle (second generation) is not being recognized by iTunes? I can't transfer any playlists to my device. Thanks!

If you can't connect any ipod successfully, and it worked once before then my first guess would be that one of the services (boujour, ituneshelper, or whatever else they have set to begin on startup) might have either gotten disabled or corrupted, though usually there is a message that itunes shows at startup if the bonjour service is not running. I haven't troubleshot ipod issues very much, I'd try and search around or start a new thread where others can help out.

Glad you got the other issue fixed.

I finally resolved this issue. I restored my iPod to factory defaults. I guess it was synced to a library from another computer. All is well now. Where is the "resolved" button for this thread. I thought I saw it here before.

Excuse me again, but Firefox is still downloading only .part files, even relatively small files. IE works fine, but I don't like IE very much. My firefox app is updated to the latest. Should I just use IE to download always?
Thanks,
Linda

What kind of internet connection do you have? Just wondering if it could be timing out.

The download bar will display a "done" message when it is complete, if you still have the bar there (or have some kind of manager add-on) then the download hasn't finished yet, so you still get the .part files.

I have high speed internet through Qwest, supposed to be 5 megs per second.

The download progress bar does say done when it is complete and shows the right amount of megs in the download folder, but just ends up being a .part file.

Try opening firefox in safe mode and downloading one of the same files you keep having problems with. If it works then one of your add-ons/themes/plug-ins is the issue. If not i would update to the latest version (if you haven't already) or uninstall and then re-install FF.

Safe Mode

MadDog,

I appreciate you giving directions to open Firefox in safe mode. Please bear with me because this is a brand new laptop and I'm having trouble with finding things from the instructiions from the link you gave me.

When I click on my Start button, I do not see "All Programs List", nor do I see "Run" in my Start button menu. Even doing a Start Search for "Firefox Safe Mode" bring no hits.

Are you able to see my Hp/Compaq specs that I entered into my profile here? Maybe you can direct me to the exact place to get to this safe mode?

You are so generous to put up with my lack of knowledge here.

Thanks, Linda

Vista is vista so we don't need to get into the details of your specific computer.

When you open the start menu the "all programs" item should be right above the start button. See it here:

vista_start_menu2.jpg

If you hover over or click on "all programs" it should expand, like this:

vista-start-menu-2.png

Scroll down this until you see a folder called "mozilla", if you click or hover on that it will expand out and show you 2 items below it. One is "mozilla firefox" and the other is "mozilla firefox (safemode)"

Then click on that second one that says safemode and try to download one of those files. If it works it's one of the add-ons, if not you should uninstall mozilla, reboot the computer and install it again.

A friend of my paritioned my new laptop here. I now download all my programs to the P drive (I chose that letter to remind me for Programs). I have chosen F for files (or Data) and D drive for Recovery (recovery backup).

When I go to All Programs from the Start Menu, I normally see ALL my programs regardless of what drive I put them on. But I do not see Firefox or Mozilla Firefox at all. When I did a search, I do see the application Firefox in my P drive.

So now what? I'm not sure why it's not showing up in All Programs.
